aquatherm at SMM: Pioneering piping systems for the maritime industry
At SMM Hamburg, aquatherm GmbH is showcasing its proven and innovative aquatherm blue and aquatherm green polypropylene piping systems. For many years, companies across the maritime sector – from shipbuilding to offshore applications – have relied on the quality and performance of aquatherm products. Through continuous development, aquatherm continues to set new standards for safe and efficient piping solutions.
aquatherm blue was developed specifically for closed cooling and heating circuits, providing corrosion-resistant solutions for technical systems in shipbuilding and offshore engineering. The system offers excellent resistance to salt, chemicals and extreme temperatures (−40 °C to +90 °C). This makes it ideally suited for ballast water transport, engine rooms, exhaust gas cleaning systems and offshore wind farms. Its long service life and maintenance-free operation help reduce downtime costs and ensure reliable operation – even under the most demanding conditions.
aquatherm green is the first choice for drinking water and service pipework on board. The system meets the highest standards of hygiene and safety, is free from heavy metals and toxic chemicals, and guarantees a hygienically safe water supply. With over 450 pipe and fitting options, as well as prefabricated pipe manifolds, aquatherm green provides maximum flexibility for use in engine rooms and technical service pipework.
Both systems are designed to withstand chemical exposure and pressure loads while enabling fast and straightforward installation – a decisive advantage for the maritime industry, where efficiency and reliability are essential.
Another highlight of aquatherm’s presence at the trade fair is a specialist presentation by Dimitri Wolf, Area Sales & Account Manager at aquatherm. The presentations is entitled: “Non-conductive piping systems for EMI/EMP-resilient naval cooling: How PP pipes reduce electromagnetic coupling in sensitive compartments”. Modern naval vessels face increasing electromagnetic threats, while their sensitive digital systems remain essential for operational capability. Metallic components that penetrate shielded compartments – including conventional cooling pipes – can introduce unwanted electromagnetic energy. The presentation will demonstrate how non-conductive PP-R pipework prevents electromagnetic coupling through cooling systems to sensitive areas such as CIC, sonar and cryptographic rooms, and how it can be integrated into holistic protection concepts alongside shielded structures and EMP-tested penetration seals.
