Press release -

Noel Gallagher’s engagement ring goes under the hammer

The bespoke diamond ring commissioned by Gallagher for his proposal to Sara MacDonald is available to bid on now via Auctionet. The ring Noel Gallagher of Oasis gave to Sara MacDonald when he proposed has come to auction through Auctionet, the European online auction marketplace, with bidding open until 29 April and an estimate of £22,000. The piece is a bespoke 18k rose gold "Bi-Di" ring by Solange Azagury-Partridge, the Bond Street jeweller whose clients have included Hollywood A-listers like Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron and Cate Blanchett.

The design features two rose-cut diamonds totalling 3.04 carats, a 2.53ct principal stone and a 0.51ct companion, set in Azagury-Partridge's signature openwork mount. Provenance has been confirmed by the maker and the ring has its original fitted gift box and receipt dated 21 October 2010. The receipt shows the original purchase price as £44,000, double the current estimate.

Gallagher and MacDonald married in 2011 after meeting in a Manchester bar in 1997. The wedding, and the engagement that preceded it, was widely covered by national and international press. The lot is offered through Rumsey's Auctioneers and is available to bid on now via Auctionet. Bidding closes 29 April.

Jon Angel, Sales Manager, Rumsey’s Auctioneers:

“The openwork mount and cut of the diamonds bring out the very best in this ring. It is a true example of excellent quality and craftmanship – and a real statement piece”.

Kayleigh Davies, Antiques and Collectibles Specialist, Auctionet:

"Solange Azagury-Partridge is a giant of modern British fine jewellery, and her work doesn't come up often. A piece with this kind of cultural provenance attached is genuinely rare. The fact that the current estimate is half of the original purchase price also tells its own story about the bargains on offer for buyers on the secondary market.”
