Unique SAAB illustrations up for auction!
Rony Lutz - The Man Who Illustrated SAAB
Auktionshuset STO Bohuslän now presents a unique collection of original works by one of the world's foremost car illustrators. Rony Lutz was born in 1938 in Nuremberg, Germany. After art studies in his home country, he came to Sweden in 1960, where he soon became involved in the advertising and printing industry. In 1969, he was hired by SAAB, where he remained until his retirement in 2002. During his time at SAAB, he was responsible for everything from advertising illustrations to so-called X-ray-style technical drawings, and his combination of a drive for perfection and an ability to communicate through images made him one of the very best in his field, worldwide.
In this auction, 91 of his works go under the hammer. Each original is the result of enormous patience, with a single piece sometimes taking two to three months of intensive work to complete. With masterful precision, he captures the reflections in lacquer, the depth of chrome, and the dynamic speed of cars in motion. Now, at 87 years of age, Rony has finally chosen to let his life's work live on with new owners.
Many of the works in this auction also carry their own exhibition history, having been shown both in Sweden and abroad. These include: Junkers Aviation Museum, Dessau, Germany, 2012.
