Drop the PIN code. Bank Norwegian offers secure payment with your smartphone

In response to the fact that six out of ten Germans take payments with their smartphones[1], Bank Norwegian offers a fully digital payment experience that allows you to ditch the PIN code and signature.

Bank Norwegian entered the German market right after the Covid-19 pandemic with the aim of being a fully digital bank that offers simple, secure, and user-friendly payment solutions to its customers. A survey by Euromonitor[2] shows that many Germans, during Covid-19, used their smartphone as a means of payment for the first time.

- We see that our customers are interested digital solutions. As a result, we are pleased to be able to offer contactless payment with smartphone to our German card customers, says Torstein Røed, Head of Products at Bank Norwegian.

You can use your smartphone for easier, faster, and more convenient payments in shops, apps and/or online without having to enter a PIN code, sign your name, create new accounts or enter payment information multiple times.

Security and privacy are essential at Bank Norwegian

- Paying with your smartphone is easy and secure. Customers simply hold their smartphone or smartwatch close to a payment terminal to make a contactless payment, says Røed.

When customers pay with Google or Apple Pay, the card number is not stored on the device or the companies' servers. The card number is also never shared with the user location. Instead, a digital card number (called a token) is stored which is encrypted and stored securely on the device. The token replaces traditional card details so that the payment can be made without the card number, expiry date and CVV2 code being transferred from the device to the payment terminal. Tokens protect your card details and are an additional security.

In the same way as with other unknown transactions, you can advertise on unknown transactions carried out with Google or Apple Pay. You do this in the Bank Norwegian app or on our website.
