To drive the ambitious plans of industrialising the high-temperature PEM fuel cell technology, Søren Rødkjær Nord Larsen, has joined Blue World Technologies as Chief Operations Officer.

On 1 April 2022, Søren Rødkjær Nord Larsen joined Blue World Technologies as Chief Operations Officer. Appointing a COO when the company began to scale up its production has been part of the plans since Blue World Technologies was founded. Søren is taking over from Mads Bang, who besides being Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, took the role of interim COO throughout the early stages of the company. With an aim to commercialise the methanol fuel cell technology through industrialisation, the primary focus areas during the first years of Blue World Technologies have been product development and production technology. In 2021, the company built up the fuel cell factory in Aalborg, Denmark, and successfully managed to insource the production of all the key fuel cell components. Later this year, Blue World Technologies will launch series production and with further scaling, they expect to reach a production capacity of 500 MW within a couple of years. The production will include component production of membrane, electrode, and separator plates, together with the assembly of fuel cell stacks, methanol reformers, and methanol fuel cell power units.

Søren Rødkjær Nord Larsen has close to two decades of production experience from large international manufacturing companies and a degree in production management. Most recently Søren held a position as Factory Manager at Alfa Laval, and he will now take charge of streamlining and upscaling the fuel cell production at Blue World Technologies. As COO, Søren will join Blue World Technologies’ corporate management team.

"We are very pleased to have welcomed Søren Rødkjær Nord Larsen as COO at Blue World Technologies. As a company, we are entering the next chapter of our journey with the transition from being a technology developer to becoming a large-scale manufacturer. Besides having a solid experience within production and previously also having built up a production from the beginning, Søren possesses calmness, structure, and a passion for stability making him the right profile for our team and for taking the lead of our operations", says Anders Korsgaard, CEO and Co-founder of Blue World Technologies.

Especially the aim to industrialise the technology by launching series production and the further scaling of the fuel cell production was what attracted Søren to Blue World Technologies:

“Blue World is on an ambitious journey driven by an enormous passion, entrepreneurship, fuel cell knowledge, and an aim to contribute to the green transition, which really fascinated me. And from the very beginning of the company, the aim has been to industrialise the technology to be able to provide methanol fuel cells in a quantity, and at a cost where it would be a serious green alternative to the transportation sector and other industries around the world. I’m, therefore, very excited to have joined Blue World Technologies, and I’m looking forward to contributing to the launch of series production and the further production scale-up in the coming years”, says Søren Rødkjær Nord Larsen, Chief Operations Officer at Blue World Technologies.

In addition to the joining of Søren Rødkjær Nord Larsen as COO, the Blue World team has been further strengthened with Christian Winther, Partner at Vaekstfonden, and Michael Wellenzohn, Chief Sales Officer of DEUTZ AG entering the Blue World Board of Directors.

Blue World Technologies is an ambitious and visionary developer and manufacturer of HT-PEM fuel cell components and systems for stationary and APU applications and the automotive and heavy-duty transportation sectors around the world. The fuel cells act as a green alternative to combustion engines and diesel generators. As a part of the Power-to-X eco-system the methanol fuel cell technology contributes to solving parts of the green transition that cannot be solved by direct electrification and battery technology alone.

Blue World Technologies’ fuel cells run primarily on methanol – a renewable liquid fuel that simply and cost-effectively can be stored for years and transported around the world while reusing existing infrastructure.

Blue World Technologies is founded on extensive experience from the fuel cell industry and aims towards commercialising the technology through large-scale production. The company is focused on the High-Temperature PEM technology combined with methanol-reforming. The combination ensures a simple system design with high conversion efficiency and significant benefits including CO2 reduction, fuel cost savings, and zero harmful emissions.
