H.M. Queen Silvia inaugurated SilviaBo in Helsingborg – as part of the H22 City Expo

On Tuesday 31 May, H.M. Queen Silvia inagurated SilviaBo in Helsingborg, Sweden. SilviaBo is a housing concept for elder adults, jointly developed by the Silviahemmet Foundation, BoKlok and IKEA.

- It feels fantastic that H.M. The Queen was on site to officially inaugurate our first full-scale SilviaBo community, especially considering that The Queen and IKEA founder Ingvar Kamprad came up with the original idea for the SilviaBo concept, says Jonas Spangenberg, CEO of BoKlok.

SilviaBo in Helsingborg is a tenant-owners association with 24 one and two bedroom apartments. The on-site construction started in August 2021 and the area was completed in early May this year. The well-known Swedish architect Thomas Sandell and his architectural firm sandellsandberg have given the house its design and the Swedish landscape designer Julia Rehnström has designed the outdoor environment.

- Here, the residents will have the opportunity to live in a safe home with focus on physical and mental well-being. Great care has been given in making it possible to adapt the homes for different needs. In addition to the lush garden, there is a dementia-friendly walking trail that runs along SilviaBo, and onwards towards a new park which is being developed by the City of Helsingborg, says Jonas Spangenberg.

SilviaBo is the contribution from BoKlok to the City of Helsingborg’s initiative to create a dementia-friendly city that focuses, among other things, on creating environments that stimulate the senses, create positive thoughts and increase the well-being of people with cognitive limitations.

During H22, two of the newly built SilviaBo apartments are open to visitors, showing opportunities for housing for the elderly and for people living with cognitive difficulties in everyday life. The area's club- and greenhouse will also be open to the Expo’s visitors and activities will be arranged in the area.

About the SilviaBo concept

SilviaBo is homes and communities designed for physical and mental well-being, a housing concept developed jointly by the Silviahemmet Foundation, BoKlok and IKEA. With SilviaBo, safe homes and outdoor areas are created, which residents neither want nor need to move away from, as the apartments are prepared to be easily adapted to an everyday life with cognitive difficulties or a disability.

The idea for SilviaBo comes from H.M. Queen Silvia and IKEA founder Ingvar Kamprad.
