Eesti Päevileht reporter wins Estonia's top investigative journalism award.

Today at a ceremony in Tallinn, Estonia, the Bonnier Award for investigative journalism was given to Kärt Anvelt of major daily Eesti Päevileht. She won for her series on a local doctor who said local sports figures and coaches had bought performance-enhancing drugs from him, which resulted in changes in Estonian laws on doping.

Finalists included Marta Jaakson and Hannes Sarv of busines daily Äripäev, for their investigative print and video series on the use of figurehead board members to avoid paying debts.

The other finalists were Piret Reiljan and Koit Brinkmann, also of Äripäev, with their series on local gas station chain Olerex and its part in a big tax fraud scam.

"The jury found this year's level of investigative stories remarkable, and this year there was no single entry that stood far above the others in terms of impact to be a clear winner as we've had in previous years," says Igor Rõtov, jury member and president of Äripäev.

The Bonnier Award was founded in 1996.
