Press release —
Peter Wolodarski recommended as new editor-in-chief for Dagens Nyheter
At the annual meeting of AB Dagens Nyheter on Feb. 11, 2013, Peter Wolodarski will be recommended to become the new editor-in-chief of the Swedish daily newspaper as of March 1, 2013. Wolodarski would succeed Gunilla Herlitz, who will continue as CEO for the company. Herlitz has been appointed new business area head within Bonnier AB as of March 1, 2013.
Gunilla Herlitz became editor-in-chief and CEO for Dagens Nyheter in fall 2009. Herlitz would continue as CEO once Peter Wolodarski would take over as the new editor-in-chief. He would report to Herlitz.
Wolodarski started as an editorial writer at Dagens Nyheter in 2001. In March 2009 he was appointed political editor and head of the editorial board at Dagens Nyheter.
“I accept this mission with great humility and commitment,” says Wolodarski. “Dagens Nyheter has played a leading role in the public debate in Sweden, and we’ll continue to do so during a time when the media industry is changing rapidly.
“As editor-in-chief, Gunilla Herlitz has made decisive contributions that have strengthened the newspaper journalistically and financially. We’ve worked closely together and will continue to do so.”
Jonas Bonnier, CEO for Bonnier AB, the parent company of Dagens Nyheter, together with a unanimous board of directors, gives his strong support to the decision to name Wolodarski editor-in-chief and responsible for the paper under Swedish press law.
“Peter Wolodarski has, during his time at Dagens Nyheter, shown an exceptional ability to capture the public discourse in a unique way with his deep knowledge of journalism,” says Jonas Bonnier. “I’m extremely pleased in the choice of Peter Wolodarski as new editor-in-chief for the paper and I’m convinced he is the right person to defend and develop the important top-quality journalism that Dagens Nyheter stands for.”
Gunilla Herlitz has been appointed head of the new business area News Sweden, as of March 1, 2013. The new business area will include Bonnier’s four daily newspapers – Dagens Nyheter, Expressen, Sydsvenskan and Dagens industri – as well as the printing group Bold and the web sales company Bink. Along with her position as board chair for Dagens Nyheter, Herlitz is the current board chair for Dagens industri, Sydsvenskan and Bold. She will become the board chair for Expressen and Bink.
