Press release -

A New Kind of Auction: Direct Auction

At Bruun Rasmussen we are launching a completely new kind of auction called Direct Auction. The auction takes place online, and, as always, our experts will advise, valuate and describe the items up for auction. However, unlike the Live Auctions and Online Auctions, it will be the seller who takes the pictures of the items and sends them directly to the buyer.

As the only internationally recognized auction house in the world, we now offer three different kinds of auctions: Live Auctions, Online Auctions and Direct Auctions. The three types of auctions ensure that items sold for everything from DKK 800 and up to several million kroner will find the right owner.

"We are proud to offer a whole new sales channel on the auction market. Many objects of art are not sold at auction today, because it doesn’t make financial sense for people to sell their items via the existing sales platforms of the different auction houses, and it is hard to find any alternatives. With Direct Auction we provide a much wider audience with the chance to sell and buy art objects easily and safely from their living rooms while still providing the well-known professional advice and valuation service of Bruun Rasmussen. We go from offering exclusivity for the few to quality for the many,” says CEO, Jakob Dupont.

Direct Auction - The Latest Addition to Our Line of Auctions

The new auction channel, Direct Auction, works in the same way as the Online Auctions at bruun-rasmussen.dk. It is a channel with the same categories – art, design and antiques – that you are familiar with from both the Live Auctions and Online Auctions, only in a lower price range. The same experts will provide their expertise and experience to valuate and describe every single item up for Direct Auction. The difference between the new Direct Auctions and our more well-known auctions is simply:

  • The seller takes the pictures of the auction lot
  • The lot can be seen at bruun-rasmussen.dk, but not at a physical preview
  • After a hammer price has been achieved, the seller sends the item directly to the buyer
  • The more direct handling offers two advantages: the fee is lower for both the seller and the buyer so that it is now possible to use Bruun Rasmussen's auctions for both the sale and purchase of items priced as low as DKK 800.

Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers is one of Scandinavia’s leading international auction houses, and one of Denmark’s oldest. It all started on 6 October 1948, when Arne Bruun Rasmussen conducted the first traditional auction in the saleroom at Bredgade 33 in Copenhagen. Today, Jesper Bruun Rasmussen stands at the helm of the family-run business together with the third generation of the family, his son Frederik and daughter Alexa, and the company’s CEO Jakob Dupont.

In 2004, the first online auction was launched, and today the auction house has expanded to include departments in Copenhagen and Aarhus and representations in Sweden, Germany, England, France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Spain, Italy, Thailand and the US. About 100,000 lots are put up for auction each year at the traditional auctions and daily online auctions. Here you can bid on everything from art, antiques, modern design and jewellery to books, coins, stamps, wine and weaponry.
