Champagne from H.R.H. The Prince of Wales and Lady Diana’s Wedding Up for Auction – Estimated Value: EUR 67,000–80,000
Dubbed the ”Wedding of the Century,” the 1981 marriage of H.R.H. The Prince of Wales and Lady Diana captivated the world. Now, a rare piece of royal history is set to be auctioned: an exclusive magnum of Dom Pérignon Vintage 1961, specially produced for the wedding, will go under the hammer at the Danish auction house Bruun Rasmussen on December 11, with an estimated value of EUR 67,000–80,000.
Wine connoisseurs and royal collectors alike have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire this extraordinary magnum. The champagne is a limited-edition wedding release, created to celebrate the union of H.R.H. The Prince of Wales and Lady Diana on July 29, 1981. The ceremony took place at St Paul’s Cathedral in London, followed by a lavish reception at Buckingham Palace.
“Vintage 1961 is one of Dom Pérignon’s most coveted vintages. This special edition was produced in extremely limited numbers and exclusively for the official festivities and selected guests of the royal wedding,” explains Thomas Rosendahl, Head of the Wine Department at Bruun Rasmussen.
These bottles were specially disgorged in 1981 and fitted with a unique label acknowledging their release to commemorate the wedding.
According to Thomas Rosendahl, it is exceptionally rare for such a bottle to appear on the market.
“This is a champagne created for a historic royal occasion, making it extraordinarily rare. It represents not only a highly esteemed Dom Pérignon vintage but also a unique piece of cultural history. We expect strong international interest from both established wine collectors and royal memorabilia enthusiasts,” says Thomas Rosendahl.
