Nicole Kidman’s Stunning Haute Couture Gown to Go Under the Hammer
Now is your chance to get up close to Hollywood glamour, as a spectacular haute couture gown worn by film star Nicole Kidman is set to be auctioned at the Danish auction house Bruun Rasmussen, with an estimate of DKK 20,000–30,000 (EUR 2,600-4,000).
The sculptural evening gown was worn by Nicole Kidman during the promotion of the 2001 film sensation ”Moulin Rouge!”, in which she starred as the female lead, Satine, opposite Ewan McGregor. The film became an international and critically acclaimed success, and cemented Kidman’s status as one of the leading actresses of her generation.
“This is a bespoke fashion creation with a direct link to one of the greatest film stars of our time. The craftsmanship is executed with remarkable precision and quality, and its unique history makes it highly appealing to both fashion enthusiasts and collectors,” says Peter Broe, memorabilia specialist at Bruun Rasmussen.
Designed by Isabell Kristensen
The gown is crafted from pink silk duchesse and was created in 1998 at Danish designer Isabell Kristensen’s couture atelier in London. With its glamorous elegance, the dress reflects the visual style that defined “Moulin Rouge!” and the Hollywood promotional aesthetic of the era.
Today, Isabell Kristensen is renowned for her extravagant creations and has, from her base in Chelsea, London, spent years designing gowns for an international clientele, including appearances on the red carpet. Even at the time, her work was characterized by a feminine and exclusive style combined with exceptional craftsmanship, establishing her as a recognized name in eveningwear.
In 2014, the dress was won in a competition held by the Danish women’s magazine “Alt for damerne”. The lot includes original documentation in the form of a letter from the magazine to the winner, as well as the book Isabell (Lindhardt & Ringhof, 2002), in which the gown is featured. The dress also appears in the Danish edition of Elle (August 2001), where Nicole Kidman is pictured wearing it.
The gown is estimated at DKK 20,000–30,000 (EUR 2,600-4,000) and will be offered at Bruun Rasmussen’s Online Auction on 25 May. It will be on view at the auction house in Lyngby, just north of Copenhagen, until the sale. Go to Online Auction.
