Rare Moomin mug sold for record sum at online auction

A Moomin mug with a Christmas motif has been sold for 79,000 SEK (about 8240 €) at an auction on the Swedish auction site tradera.com.

The Moomin mug, which is the most unusual one in the series, was made by Arabia in collaboration with Fazer in 2004. The cup, an ivory model in which the Moomin family climbs and step on a pile of Christmas gifts, was manufactured in 400 copies. Only 380 mugs were availible for sale since the first 20 went straight to Fazer.

The cup which now sold is number 27 in the series.

The sales price is among the highest ever paid for a Moomin mug. The popularity of the Moomin Mugs is rising all the time. Last year a mug in the same series sold on the Finnish auction site huuto.net for over 5 000.
