Press release —
The Moomins are coming to Junibacken!
12 February 2015 is the opening day of the exciting exhibition Moomins at Junibacken, where you can stroll around Moominvalley and meet many of its inhabitants: Moomintroll, Little My, Snufkin and other much-loved characters created by Tove Jansson.
“This year, Moomintroll turns 70 years old and I am so pleased that we are launching the anniversary year with a Moomin exhibition at Junibacken. Visitors will be able to meet all the unique characters from the books and experience the Moominvalley in real life,”
explains Gustav Melin, Global Licensing Director at Bulls Licensing, which represents the Moomin brand all over the world.
To coincide with the exhibition, Arabia will be launching two new Moomin mugs with unique designs under the Fiskars Group brand. The illustrations by Tove Jansson and her brother Lars Jansson were first produced for the Keep Sweden Tidy Foundation in the 1970s. The first mug, released on 12 February, is based on the theme of ocean pollution and is once again a collaboration with Keep Sweden Tidy. For each product sold, around ten percent of the sales price will be donated to the foundation on educating school children and parents about the effects of litter on our environment.
“Opening an exhibition based on such well-known and loved works by one of our very greatest artists creates a special kind of feeling. We hope to inspire a new generation of Moomin fans to play, explore and read,” says Kristina Axén Olin, who chairs the board of Junibacken.
Moomins at Junibacken has been designed by set designers Ola Hultén, Pelle Magnestam and Håkan Sanchis, and is based on several of the books.
The puppet theatre production Hur gick det sen? will be performed daily in the exhibition. Based on the first picture book The Book about Moomin, Mymble and Little My from 1952, the production is directed by Mikael Kallin. The puppet maker and choreographer is Andreas Braula.
The exhibition will run throughout 2015 and for most of 2016.
