Joy Lyn Shaw Achieves The Ultimate Work/Life Balance Through Voice Overs

SALT LAKE CITY, UT - After seven years in radio broadcasting and baby number two on the way Joy Lyn Shaw decided it was time to stop the rat-race.

“I wanted to be with my children so doing voice over from home seemed the perfect solution. I get to care for and watch my children grow each day.” Shaw adds, “Plus I can support our family financially through voiceover. I get the best of both worlds…an amazing job and an involved family life.”

While attending College, her brother decided to leave his radio job and asked her if she’d be interested in applying to replace him.

Shaw remembers thinking, “Sure, I could use a little extra money to spend while I get through college.” I never imagined it would set me on a path that would lead me to where I am today. I got the job and ended up working at college radio stations and changing my major midway through from science education to broadcast journalism. I spent 7 years in the radio/television world and then left when I was pregnant with my second child to start my voice over business.”

Decades later Shaw has a solid client base and is continuing to build her business online through sites like Voices.com and Joylynshaw.com where demos of her voice work are available.

“I can really lose myself in a project and that’s therapy for me…to forget about my own life for a moment and dig into someone else's,” says Shaw. “Who doesn’t want to be a voice over artist?”
