Cavotec awarded orders worth EUR 7.2m for maritime systems

The Cavotec engineering group has won orders worth EUR 7.2 million for several of its Ports & Maritime technologies, including Alternative Maritime Power (AMP) systems, marine propulsion slipring systems, cable reels and high voltage cables for customers in the US, China, Australia, South Korea, and Japan.

"These orders highlight Cavotec's ability to deliver critical technologies for a wide variety of applications all over the world. We look forward to continued close cooperation with our customers on these and other projects," says Ottonel Popesco, Cavotec CEO.

Cavotec has received two substantial orders from the Dalian Huarui conglomerate for a bulk handling application in Australia. The scope of these projects includes the manufacture and supply of cable reels, hose reels and hoses for five stacker/reclaimer machines and one ship loader, as well as high voltage power cables.

This equipment will be used to process iron ore from the Roy Hill mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The mine, one of the largest in the region, is estimated to contain 2.4 billion tonnes of iron ore.

In China, Cavotec will supply six of its advanced marine propulsion slipring systems that will be installed on an accommodation rig of an oil platform.

The Group has also won four separate orders for its innovative AMP systems. In the first of the four projects, Cavotec is to supply a number of skid-mounted AMP reels that will be used in Californian ports on different container vessels. Delivery is scheduled for September this year.

The Group has won an order for ship-based, container-housed AMP units and junction boxes for a customer in South Korea.

Cavotec is also supplying medium voltage container AMP units for a Chinese shipping line. These systems will be installed on 8,500-TEU container vessels.

And finally, the Group is to deliver a low voltage container AMP unit for a maritime electrical systems integrator in Japan. This equipment will be installed on container vessels owned by a South East Asian shipping line.

"Cavotec has a unique capability to manufacture AMP systems — be they on shore, ship-based, fixed or mobile, low or medium voltage — to all types of customers: port authorities, shipping lines and ship owners," says Luciano Corbetta, Cavotec Group Market Unit Manager Ports & Maritime.

Cavotec AMP systems enable ships in port to switch off their engines and connect to shore-side electrical power supply, thus reducing emissions in ports and surrounding communities. As the global ports and shipping industries take steps to meet national and international legislation on emissions, Cavotec AMP systems are being increasingly widely used.

Today, there are more than 200 AMP units that are installed, or currently being installed on ships; while ports such as Los Angeles, Long Beach, Oakland, Prince Rupert, and Tacoma in North America; Antwerp, Goteborg, Stockholm and other ports across Europe use the technology.

In close cooperation with engineering partners, shipping lines and port authorities, Cavotec has developed shore power technologies since the 1980s. These include ship-based units, land-based vault systems and mobile units.

Cavotec develops advanced technologies that help ports around the world operate safely, efficiently and sustainably. These include AMP, MoorMaster™ automated mooring, Panzerbelt cable protection systems, crane controllers, marine propulsion slip rings, power chains and connectors, radio remote controls and motorised cable reels.
