Cetasol upgrades iHelm with Cloud Dashboard 2.0 — making maritime data actionable
Cetasol has released Cloud Dashboard 2.0, a major upgrade to its iHelm decision support platform. The new version strengthens fleet monitoring with many new features such as vessel location replay, performance analytics tools and advanced engine health monitoring, all delivered through a redesigned, user-friendly interface. The release directly addresses three of the industry’s most pressing challenges: rising fuel costs, stricter emissions regulations, and unplanned downtime.
Challenges in maritime – obstacles toward optimized operations
Fuel is one of the largest costs for many operations, often accounting for 30-50% of total operating costs. With the increasing price in fuel the margins in operations shrink as well. This shows the need for fuel reduction and early detection of inefficiencies. Emission regulations (such as IMO’s EEXI and CII) requirements mean operators must show continuous improvements in carbon intensity and energy efficiency. Together, this creates a strong case for continuous engine performance monitoring: by identifying inefficiencies early, operators can optimize fuel usage, reduce emissions, and avoid penalties, all while lowering costs.
Maritime engines operate under tough conditions. If an issue goes unnoticed until it escalates, it can result in unplanned breakdowns. For a commercial vessel, a single day of downtime can cost tens of thousands of euros in lost operations, not to mention repair expenses. Proactive monitoring, such as real-time alarms and trend tracking, allows crews to detect irregularities before they turn into failures. This shifts maintenance from reactive (“fix when it breaks”) to proactive (“fix before it breaks”), which is far more cost-efficient. Beyond costs, downtime also affects reliability and customer trust. For fleet operators, having vessels consistently available is key to competitiveness.
Today, vessel operators often deal with scattered data sources: the crew may log voyage information manually, engine manufacturers provide separate monitoring systems, and performance reports are delivered in spreadsheets or PDFs. This fragmentation makes it hard to build a complete, real-time picture of vessel performance. Important signals can be missed, and decision-making becomes reactive rather than proactive.
By consolidating data into a single platform with clear visualizations (like vessel view, replay, and performance dashboards), operators can:
- Spot patterns across voyages.
- Compare performance between vessels.
- Identify which operational changes lead to measurable improvements.
The real value lies not just in having data, but in having actionable insights at the right time, empowering crews and management to make smarter, faster decisions.
AI-driven decision support by Cetasol with iHelm
Cetasol is an innovative software company working on delivering intelligent solutions to the maritime industry. With their AI-based iHelm solution, they support maritime organisations with fuel savings, performance insights, reporting and compliance and engine uptime.
Recently Cetasol released Cloud dashboard 2.0, and updated design of their cloud dashboard part of the iHelm solution. This new design aligns with the need for simplicity in handling complex data, making insights accessible for crew and management alike.
In this new update they also released an improved real-time page with vessel view and replay. This helps operators not only act in the moment but also learn from past voyages, enabling continuous improvement. The release also included engine alarms, a feature to support predictive maintenance and early detection, directly tied to reducing downtime and unexpected costs.
