Chr. Hansen launches two new probiotic yoghurt cultures

The BMY-1 and BMY-2 cultures offer dairies a possibility to produce extremely creamy and mild fermented milk products with a high level of the well-documented probiotic strain BB-12®.

“The new culture blends are the perfect solution for producers of healthy and tasty yoghurts, drinking yoghurts and other fermented milk products who want to offer consumers the best of both worlds: great texture and flavor without high levels of fat and sugar. The new cultures also offer high cell counts of BB-12®, the probiotic strain clinically documented for health effects on the gastrointestinal tract,” says Chr. Hansen’s Sarita Bairoliya, Global Marketing Manager, Probiotics.

Reduced sugar, low-fat, and probiotic

“BMY-1 and BMY-2 are optimized blends of probiotic cultures and fermented milk cultures,” explains Chr. Hansen’s Mette Oehrstroem Runge, Specialist Application Manager, Fermented Milk and Probiotics. “They have three key properties. First of all, a thick and creamy texture offering the possibility to decrease fat content whilst maintaining texture. Secondly a very mild flavor giving manufacturers the option to lower sugar levels in their products. Finally, high numbers of the BB-12® probiotic bacteria to ensure the documented health benefits on the gastrointestinal tract.”

Guilt-free indulgence

“We have developed the new products in response to the growing demand for probiotic cultures for ‘guilt-free’ indulgence products,” explains Sarita Bairoliya. “These cultures will help fermented milk manufacturers produce low-fat and low-sugar probiotic products catering to the global health consumer trend — without making compromises on taste or texture.”

BMY-1 and BMY-2 are new additions to Chr. Hansen’s nu-trish® range of probiotic culture blends for fermented milk products. The composition of the BMY cultures is designed to give BB-12® the optimal conditions for growth and stability. ‘BMY’ is short for Bifidobacterium BB-12®, Mesophilic, and Yoghurt cultures.

Friendly bacteria

Probiotics are beneficial bacterial cultures that, when consumed in adequate amounts, can reward your body with health benefits such as improving digestive health, promoting regularity and enhancing your immune system. Innovation and documentation make Chr. Hansen stand out as a quality supplier of probiotics. Strain research and selection, published clinical studies, and stringent quality control ensure the effectiveness and safety of Chr. Hansen’s well-known probiotics for dairy applications and dietary supplements — particularly the flagship strains BB12®, LA5® and L.Casei 431®.
