2012 Genghis Khan event dates confirmed

Nordic Ways is happy to announce the date for the 5th Genghis Khan Festival in Xiwuqi, close to Xilinhot in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China. Runners will have their unique run through the rolling grasslands on Saturday, 30 June 2012, while mountainbikers will start off their 3-day stage race on Friday, 29 June.

Runners can once again choose between three distances, of which the main event is of course the full marathon distance of 42,195 kilometres, ran almost entirely offroad. This year two runners scored sub-3 hours times with local Chinese runner Liu Yong winning in 2:45:45 ahead of USA's Rudy Gilman in 2:51:04. Best woman was Jennifer Graham from Canada in 4:10:47.

Mountainbikers will commence their stage race on Friday afternoon with the classic Xiwuqi loop of 53km, followed by a slightly shorter stage on Saturday (circa 40km) and a final big 100km stage on Sunday. As usual, it is also possible to participate only in individual stages.

Both runners and bikers will also discover and enjoy new areas of the Xiwuqi grasslands in 2012. The precise tracks will be presented in the course of the upcoming weeks.

More information will soon be available on our Genghis Khan event website, which is currently under construction. Meanwhile, check www.nordicways.com for past event history, or contact the Nordic Ways office in Beijing (+86 (10) 8580 1757) or email info@nordicways.com.
