Russian runners keep locals off the podium

Mild temperatures and plenty of sunshine on day 1 of the 2nd Vasa Orienteering Festival in Changchun's Jingyuetan Park. More than 250 competitive runners took the start over the Middle Distance (circa 5km) with several hundreds more doing the non-competitive "experience walk". As expected, the Russian team delivered some great performances today, effectively keeping other nations from the prizes in the Elite and the Age Group categories.
The top 5 in the Man's Elite category was heavily contested and was only separated by a few minutes. Victory went to Anton Melnichenko from Khabarovsk in 25'32", who kept four compatriots from Wladiwostok behind him. Petr Nurmukhamtevov took second and third place was tied by Oleg Grishchukov and Maksim Ostropika. First Chinese was Li Yu Huan in sixth place in 29'14". 
The women's Elite was dominated clearly by Russia's Anastasia Potapenko, who completed the course more than four minutes faster than her compatriot Anastasia Chevalova. The lowest step on the podium was taken up by Nadezda Zhuravleva. First Chinese was Jilin's Yu Lang.
