Quiet ventilation: choosing and installing the right silencer

If you're a ventilation designer or installer, your role extends beyond designing or setting up a duct system. It’s your responsibility to foster a conducive indoor environment that’s comfortable, healthy, and productive. A significant element that often goes unnoticed in this pursuit is sound reduction. An essential product for a quiet ventilation system is the simple sound attenuator.

Noise control: The role of ventilation systems in healthy buildings

Creating a healthy indoor environment often brings to mind factors such as temperature, humidity, and air quality. However, one essential yet frequently overlooked element is acoustic. Unwanted or disturbing noise can significantly impact our comfort, well-being, and health, thus making sound reduction a vital part of creating an optimal indoor environment.

Temperature – cold facts on a hot topic

Temperature is an important part of the indoor climate when it comes to comfort and productivity. And to feel comfortable is a prerequisite for performing without hindrance. Both high and low temperatures can affect mental ability, work capacity, strength and mobility. This in turn can affect the frequency of accidents, work performance and comfort.

The thousand gases of our everyday life

Volatile Organic Compounds or carbon-based chemicals are emitted as gases from solids or liquids. There are thousands of different gases produced from products like paint and perfume, but also generated from activities such as cooking and smoking. If exposed to VOCs, possible short-term symptoms and health effects may include headache, cough and dizziness as well as throat and skin irritation.

  • Relative humidity is an absolute health factor

Relative humidity is an absolute health factor

Relative humidity is a measure of the actual amount of water vapor in the air compared to the total amount of vapor that can exist in the air at its current temperature. Both too much or too little relative humidity can cause discomfort. If you have really high humidity levels you may want to check your pipes and plumbing for water leaks. The optimal RH-level is between 40-60%.

  • Why particulate matter matters

    Why particulate matter matters

Airborne particles are a form of air pollution, a piece of solid or liquid matter that floats in the air around us. Their ability to get stuck in the body and form depots depends on their size and whether they can pass through the mucous membranes of the airways. Some can enter the bloodstream and spread to other organs. A ventilation system can remove a majority of the particles from outside.

For the fourth year in a row, Lindab Italy is cooperating with the ‘Marie Curie’ Technical Institute in Naples, getting fourth and fifth year students involved in a hands-on training course about aeraulic design. Through a mix of theory and practical activities, the students learned about fire damper regulations and worked on a case study, designing a Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) system using Lindab’s LindQST software.

Great to see all attentive students who took part in this activity and listened to our great teachers Giampaolo Matta, Chiara Serra and Pietro Mozzi!

The work to reduce scrap metal is ever ongoing with optimisation of production, there will however always be a small amount of scrap. Exciting news are coming from Czech Republic and our production site Karlovarska, on how to put it to use. As one of their activities to save metal scrap they have started their own production of support rings for wellboxes. During the cutting process of products from sheet metal, there are leftover parts of large enough for support rings to be cut out. With this activity, Karlovarska now cover their need for support rings with the inhouse production made from scrap metal. It is estimated that the site can make approximately 20 000 support rings per year. A fantastic way to get creative and make real use of scrap metal!

Lindab Sweden are constantly working to update and energy-optimise their 30 pro-shops around the country, from Malmö in the south to Luleå in the north. Right now there is a total makeover going on in Gävle where conference rooms and the shop get updated, along with ventilation optimised for the business. Norrtälje has received new heating and new lighting, with the premises being refreshed and energy-optimised. After the summer, a total renovation will begin in Borås where they are switching to geothermal heating and renovating the entrance, offices and the shop, again along with ventilation optimised for the business.

Nice to see work done creating better customer experience with as little environmental footprint as possible!

Meet Malin Blanck, regional manager of four pro-shops in Sweden since the summer of 2022. In her role, she supports the salespeople and focuses on how Lindab can become both a better supplier and workplace. Together with the other regional managers she’s shaping both the service and the way of working.

Can you tell us about a memorable moment at Lindab?
– It is not a moment, but in one of my professional stores it was previously quite stressful for the staff at times. Through changed routines and working methods, we have managed to improve the working climate while providing customers with increased service.
