Is it time for Malta to finally accept divorce?

There are two countries in the world where it is illegal to divorce, Malta and the Philippines. The reasons behind this are many but in general it is all about protecting the core family, and strong religious powers that claim that you can’t undo an act made by God.

We had a quick look through the campaigns for and against divorce on Malta and they use the same areas to claim that their standpoint is better, usually it is either better or worse for the children and the woman. The campaigners is like a couple in the middle of a separation nagging and starting fights over nothing.

There is nothing wrong with trying to get people to stay together, but should it be illegal to leave a husband or wife that you really can’t live with, that is the question!

The latest opinion polls asked 500 Maltese how they would mark their ballot paper in Saturday’s referendum, 42 per cent of respondents said they would vote for divorce while 35 per cent were against.

However, with 20 per cent still undecided, the referendum remains a close affair and the result may depend on how the campaigns of the ‘yes’ and ‘no’ movements are conducted in the last four days.

The number of voters might be low, apparently women are more decided on going out to vote with 81 per cent of female respondents saying ‘yes’ as opposed to 76 per cent of men.

BETnGO.com has now added odds on if the voters in Malta will say yes to Divorce, and they seem to be sure that Malta is ready for a Yes to Divorce, the people of Malta want to be able to have a freedom of choice before and after they have been married.
Will The Maltese Vote Yes to Divorce in the referendum?
Yes 1.50
No 2.40

The marriage is a beautiful thing, but only when you are in it with a man or woman that you love. We are sure that the Maltese has started to believe in the individual’s right to chose and not agree to anything that the church tell them to do.
