Ruhr Ding: Klima postponed until May/June 2021 (English version)

Dear Sir or Madam,

Against the background of the current developments surrounding the coronavirus, we are forced to postpone the Ruhr Ding: Klima in the four Ruhr area towns Recklinghausen, Herne, Marl and Haltern am See. The second edition of the exhibition format in the public space, which was originally planned for 9 May to 28 June 2020, is now scheduled to take place in May and June 2021 in an updated and expanded form. The further development will be carried out in close collaboration with the artists and the cooperation partners under the artistic direction of Britta Peters.

The press conference for the programme presentation on Thursday, 26 March 2020 at 11.00 a.m. in the Metropolis Kino in Bochum will therefore not take place. We will inform you about the details of the 2021 exhibition at a later date. The Wandersalon #20: Klima, Kunst und Digitalisierung in Dortmund’s cultural centre Langer August, which was scheduled for 26 March at 7 pm, also has to be cancelled until further notice. Various events on the subject of climate in an artistic context are planned throughout the year, about which we will inform you in good time.

The Magazin #3, which has been conceived for the Climate Edition, provides a perspective on the planned exhibition and expands the discourse around the thematic framework to include theoretical positions, pop-cultural and philosophical issues. Even though nothing will be the same again after the experience of the corona pandemic, the main contents retain their validity for the later exhibition period. You can order the magazine free of charge here.

Ruhr Ding: Klima postponed until May/June 2021

Against the background of the current developments surrounding the coronavirus, Urbane Künste Ruhr is forced to postpone the Ruhr Ding: Klima in the four Ruhr area towns Recklinghausen, Herne, Marl and Haltern am See.

“Naturally, it is a great pity that we cannot realise the exhibition until next year”, says Britta Peters, “however, at the same time it does give us the opportunity to take into account the current exceptional social situation, the changed view of globalisation and the consequences of the measures for people, the economy and the environment in the further development of the project.”

The exhibition format Ruhr Ding from Urbane Künste Ruhr above all addresses virulent issues in situ and examines them in terms of their global dimension. Whereas last year, the first edition on the subject of territories was devoted to the relationship between identity and territories, the Ruhr Ding: Klima now explores ecological, regional and broader societal aspects of an expanded climate concept that are inevitably interwoven. The current developments accompanying the spread of the coronavirus clearly illustrate the inseparability of social and scientific debates. The works produced especially for the region and the local conditions are characterised by diverse artistic perspectives and forms of expression. With installations, interventions, sculptures, video works, audio walks, performances, artificial botanical landscapes and floating pavilions, international artists invite visitors to experience diverse art in extraordinary settings.

As things stand at present, all the artists and cooperation partners involved in the Ruhr Ding: Klima are set to take part in the new exhibition period in May and June 2021:

Ana Alenso, Pavel Brăila, Michel de Broin, Monster Chetwynd, Mariechen Danz and Kerstin Brätsch, Hayden Fowler, Kasia Fudakowski, Jeewi Lee, Deborah Ligorio, Renegade and 1000SC, Monira Al Qadiri, Yukihiro Taguchi and Chiara Ciccarello, Raul Walch, the Ruhrfestspiele, the Kunsthalle Recklinghausen and the Heimatmuseum Unser Fritz. The planned special exhibition at the Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten Marl is scheduled to open independently, but remains closely linked to the overall project in terms of content and communication. We are currently holding planning discussions with the other cooperation partners.
