DEFA Power Achieves Hubject Certification for ISO 15118-2 Plug & Charge

DEFA Group announces that its charging station DEFA Power is now officially certified by Hubject for ISO 15118-2 Plug & Charge. This certification confirms that DEFA’s technology meets the highest international standards for security, interoperability, and performance across the global eMobility ecosystem.
”Hubject and DEFA share a commitment to making EV charging simpler. Certifying DEFA Power for Plug & Charge shows how we can work together to create a more intuitive and secure charging experience. This step brings us closer to a more connected and efficient charging ecosystem”, says Bård Klungseth, CEO of DEFA Group.

The certification enables seamless end-to-end communication between DEFA Power chargers and vehicles from OEMs that support Hubject-approved Plug & Charge systems. Drivers simply connect the cable — authentication and payment are handled automatically. No apps, RFID cards, or manual activation required.

"Certifying DEFA Power for ISO 15118-2 Plug & Charge underscores our shared commitment to interoperability, security, and a truly seamless charging experience", noted Christian Hahn, CEO of Hubject. "By meeting Hubject’s certification requirements, DEFA demonstrates that its charging technology is ready to operate reliably within a global Plug & Charge ecosystem—enabling drivers, operators, and OEMs to benefit from frictionless authentication and payment at scale."

What this means for charging partners

  • Plug & Charge Ready: Enables a frictionless charging experience with automatic authentication and payment.
  • Proven Interoperability: Certified integration with Hubject’s global network ensures compatibility with leading OEMs, CPOs, and eMSPs.
  • Security You Can Trust: Verified ISO 15118 compliance ensures encrypted communication and data integrity.
  • Future-Proof Technology: Designed to align with evolving standards, providing long-term operational confidence.
  • Efficient Deployment: Certification streamlines integration and testing, reducing time-to-market and operational complexity.

Unique flexibility: Plug & Charge + dynamic QR interface

While Plug & Charge delivers the optimal experience for vehicles supporting ISO 15118, charging networks must accommodate the full spectrum of EV drivers. DEFA Power is one of few solutions combining Hubject-certified Plug & Charge with an integrated display featuring dynamic QR-based payment.

This ensures operators can deliver the most seamless charging experience available, while still offering secure, easy payment options for all drivers — regardless of vehicle compatibility or account setup.

How it works

DEFA Power is prepared for this. What’s required — besides the vehicle being equipped for Plug & Charge — is that the Charge Point Operator has an agreement with Hubject and has the feature activated on their chargers.
This currently applies to public charging and therefore provides substantial B2B value, even though DEFA Power is also prepared for Plug & Charge in the context of home charging.

“DEFA Power offers complete flexibility. No compromises, just pure and solid simplicity,” Bård Klungseth concludes.

The feature will be activated for DEFA Power charging stations in the near future, with more information to be published on our LinkedIn page.
