Another milestone achieved for ADRA Business

On Tuesday 3 May, ADRA Denmark signed an agreement with Adfarm (Adventure on the Farm Investments) in Uganda, which will lead to the Adfarm Ingrower Business Plan and expected implementation of the second ingrower project facilitated by ADRA Business, following the Babcock Ingrower in Nigeria.

This was part of a lively network meeting among some 30 ADRA Business Forum stakeholders, with participants from both Africa, especially Uganda as well as Danish residents, representing the private, public as well as institutional sectors.

ADRA Business will, together with danishknowhow as the subcontractor, develop a business plan for Adfarm Ingrower, which includes engagement of unemployed youths whom will be incubated to become independent agricultural business people starting their own agri business. Furthermore, and at the same time, the incubator will give a very fair return on invested capital to the social impact investors.

CEO of Adfarm, Ms Jenipher Nakiyemba expressed in her presentation satisfaction in coming to Denmark and sense such interest for Ugandan agriculture and not the least the ingrower concept. She further stated that “the ingrower is a win-win deal to all the stakeholders. Uniquely it gives the entrepreneurs (students and unemployed young people) a real opportunity to start their own business without the hassle of getting capital. In a nutshell, the ingrower addresses the key challenges often faced by the smallholder farmers”.

Other presenters were, among others, Jens Vesterager, Programme Manager at Rockwool Foundation, whom presented the recent findings and a new approach to rural development, including a manual for practitioners and an evaluation of the achievements within agriculture. Much enlightening and in tune with the ingrower incubation model.

Dr Kafeero Israel and Mr Solomon Kateregga of SDA Uganda Union and ADRA Uganda, respectively presented their view and recent experiences on how traditional humanitarian and relief work, but not the least capacity development work is changing in the direction of more trade and less aid pivoted around private, public partnerships. Mr Anders Frigaard, Managing Director of danishknowhow supported this via disclosing recent achievements at the Moamba Ingrower in Mozambique.

Erik Buch Procida, Director of ADRA Business thanked the +20 members of ADRA Business Forum for their continued support while welcoming the latest developments from the international scene in engaging the CSO’s (Civil Society Organizations) to have and important stake in pivoting and assuring implementation of the 17 SDG (Sustainable Development Goals). ADRA Business is open for and ready to facilitate initiatives, partnerships, programmmes and the like in support to achieving the SDG’s and herewith supporting also the Danish Foreign Ministry new Development Strategy – just announced.
