GB4: Luca Magnussen Chases Points at Oulton Park
Following his best result of the season at Silverstone last month, 15-year-old Danish driver Luca Magnussen is aiming to continue his upward momentum at Oulton Park this weekend.
Magnussen is set for the third round of the British GB4 Championship, taking place at Oulton Park over the coming days. The 15-year-old Fortec Motorsports driver, supported by SASHI Beef Lover, is hoping to score valuable points in the fiercely competitive junior series. He achieved his best result to date with an 11th-place finish at Silverstone in April.
“The goal for these weekends is of course always to finish with a top result, but we also have to be realistic, as this is my first year in single-seaters,” said Luca Magnussen. “So the ambition is to be in the top 10 and score as many points as possible. Our result in the second round at Silverstone shows that we’re on the right path.”
The learning curve has been steep for the young Dane, who – in addition to progressing steadily in the GB4 car – has learned that simply finishing races can be a challenge. Magnussen has retired from two of the six races so far this season due to contact with competitors, which has cost him valuable points.
“There’s a lot of close racing, and a race can be over in a split second if you’re not careful. With 24 cars on the grid this weekend, there’s no doubt we’re heading into another tough weekend,” the Dane added.
“But I’m really looking forward to getting back in the car. Even though we haven’t had as much time to prepare for Oulton Park as we did for some of the other circuits, we’ve had some solid practice sessions. It’s another awesome, old-school British track with no room for mistakes, which suits me perfectly – so I’m excited for the racing.”
The third round of the 2024 GB4 Championship takes place this weekend at Oulton Park, with qualifying and Race 1 scheduled for Saturday, May 24 at 14:05 and 17:50 (CET), and Races 2 and 3 set for Monday, May 26 at 13:30 and 18:05. All races will be streamed live on YouTube.
