Luca Magnussen After GB4 Championship Debut: We’re On the Right Track

Strong progress for Luca Magnussen, who reflects on his performance in the fiercely competitive British junior championship after two rounds of the GB4 Championship.

Luca Magnussen achieved his best GB4 result to date when he finished 11th in the second round of the British junior championship this past weekend. However, the Dane didn’t escape unscathed—he was forced off the track by an eager competitor in the second race of the weekend and had to retire, while in the final race, he was hit by another competitor and had to settle for 14th place. He had been on course for ninth.

“Overall, it was a really good weekend, where I had genuinely found the pace and felt from the start that there was a lot of potential,” said Luca Magnussen.

The SASHI Beef Lover sponsored Dane finished seventh in the final practice session on Friday, but was unable to carry the pace into qualifying, where Magnussen was hampered by traffic and had to settle for 14th on the grid.

“The first race was chaotic at the start, but I managed to avoid too much contact and finished 11th, which I was really pleased with. In the second race, I was a bit more aggressive, but got pushed off the track heading into the fast Abbey corner (the first turn after the main straight). After that, I couldn’t get the car going again and had to retire,” Luca explains.

“The third race was wild too. Midway through, I was hit by a competitor even though we were behind the safety car, and once the green flag waved again, everyone went flat out. I climbed up to ninth place, but made contact with another competitor in the final corner – unfortunately, that dropped me to 14th.”

“But again, a good weekend, because we now know we have the performance to be in the top third of the field. I feel more comfortable in the car, and I definitely feel I’ve found more speed since the first round at Donington.”

“It’s a wild series, where you have to race hard but also avoid unlucky situations. But we’re on the right track, and it gives me huge motivation to see all the hard work paying off in the form of better results. A huge thanks to the entire Fortec Motorsports team and my sponsors,” the Dane concludes.

The next challenge for Luca Magnussen and the rest of the Fortec Motorsports team is the third round of the GB4 Championship, which takes place at Oulton Park International on May 25-26.
