Mathias Villadsen ready for intense GT3 weekend at Mugello

The Danish racing driver is looking forward to a busy sprint weekend at Italy's iconic Formula 1 circuit, where valuable track time and continued development will be the main priorities.

Mathias Villadsen continues his Italian GT3 campaign this weekend as the fifth round of the Campionato Italiano Gran Turismo takes place at Mugello Circuit. The Dane will once again line up for Team Spirit Racing in a BMW M4 GT3 as the third round of the Sprint Championship marks the beginning of the second half of the season.

After the opening four rounds, Villadsen can already look back on a season that has delivered both challenges and encouraging results. The highlight came at Misano, where he and Jan Magnussen secured an impressive second-place finish in the opening Endurance round of the championship – a result that underlined the potential of the young Danish driver.

Now the focus shifts to a demanding sprint weekend at Mugello, where the schedule features three one-hour practice sessions, two qualifying sessions and two one-hour races. The extensive track time will provide another valuable opportunity to continue developing both car and driver, although the high summer temperatures in Tuscany are expected to make for an especially physical weekend.

"So far, it's been a season with an incredible amount of learning. There have been both highs and lows, but overall I feel we've been moving in the right direction. Mugello is a fantastic circuit, and we've come quite close to finding a setup that works well. We're still missing a little compared to the most experienced teams, but our race pace simulations look promising, which gives us confidence heading into the weekend," says Mathias Villadsen.

As at the previous rounds, Villadsen will once again have his regular coach, Jan Magnussen, by his side throughout the weekend. The four-time Le Mans winner will provide guidance and share his extensive experience both on and off the track.

Round five of the Campionato Italiano Gran Turismo gets underway at Mugello Circuit on Saturday, July 25, with the first sprint race scheduled to start at 1:45 PM local time. The second race follows on Sunday, July 26, at 12:00 PM local time. Both races will be streamed live on YouTube.
