Nicklas Nielsen Ahead of WEC Battle at Spa: A Top Result Is Crucial

After a disappointing race at Imola, the Danish Ferrari driver is aiming to repeat last year’s podium finish at Spa-Francorchamps as the third round of the FIA World Endurance Championship takes place this weekend.

While the opening round of the FIA World Endurance Championship brought a brilliant victory for Nicklas Nielsen, Antonio Fuoco, and Miguel Molina, the second round at Imola in April was less successful. This time it was their teammates in the sister car who took the win, while the reigning Le Mans champion had to settle for a disappointing 15th place after a race plagued by problems. As a result, expectations are high for a strong result at this weekend’s World Championship round at Spa-Francorchamps.

"A top result is crucial this weekend. Partly because we need to catch up in the championship standings, but also because we want to carry strong momentum into Le Mans, which is the next race on the calendar. With our win in Qatar and our teammates’ victory at Imola, there’s no doubt about our potential. The goal this weekend is to maintain our performance level and avoid the mistakes that cost us a top result and valuable championship points last time out,” says Nicklas Nielsen.

“I’m looking forward to returning to Spa. We had a strong race there last year, finishing third after starting from the back of the grid. It’s an amazing track with a fantastic crowd, and I hope we can give the many Ferrari fans another great experience,” he adds.

So far, Ferrari has dominated this year’s FIA World Endurance Championship. While the two factory cars – the #50 and #51 499Ps – along with the privately entered #83 499P swept the podium in the season opener, the Italian marque also managed to triumph on home soil at Imola in round two. Ferrari currently leads both the drivers’ and teams’ championships.

Round three of the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship kicks off with the first practice sessions on Thursday, May 8. Qualifying takes place on Friday, May 9, and the six-hour Spa race goes green on Saturday, May 10 at 14:00. The race will be broadcast live on TV 2 PLAY, Eurosport, and the FIA WEC App.
