WEC at Spa: Nicklas Nielsen Back on the Podium

The Danish Ferrari factory driver and reigning Le Mans winner secured a strong second place in this weekend’s six-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps – the final stop before Le Mans.

Nicklas Nielsen narrowly missed out on the win but still delivered a solid second-place finish in round three of the FIA World Endurance Championship, held Saturday evening at Spa-Francorchamps in front of more than 98,000 spectators. The result earned valuable championship points for Nielsen and teammates Antonio Fuoco and Miguel Molina, who started the six-hour race from pole position but were ultimately beaten by their fellow Ferrari factory teammates.

"It was another one of those races where we had to fight extremely hard from the very first lap. We ran a pretty clean race and managed to stay in contention for the win all the way through. In the end, it came down to fuel strategy. We battled with our sister car, Alpine, and BMW before finally securing a podium finish,” said Nicklas Nielsen.

“It’s a shame to miss the win, but as a team, we couldn’t ask for a better lead-up to Le Mans. A 1-2 finish in the final race before France gives the entire crew a huge boost, and now it’s all about carrying that momentum forward. Big congratulations to our teammates on the victory,” the Dane added.

Ferrari’s 1-2 finish at Spa means the Italian marque has now won all rounds of this year’s World Endurance Championship, dominating both the drivers’ and teams’ standings. Nielsen, Fuoco, and Molina claimed victory in the season opener in Qatar back in February.

Next up for Nicklas Nielsen and the Ferrari – AF Corse squad is the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 93rd edition of the legendary French endurance classic takes place on June 14–15.
