New AXION 9 large tractors from CLAAS: premium comfort meets high automation, increased productivity and optimised efficiency

CLAAS is presenting its new AXION 9 large tractor series as a world premiere at Agritechnica. These cover a power range from 330 to 450 hp and feature a new, noise-reduced cab with a maximum noise level of 66 db(A) and a volume of 3 cubic metres, a new CEBIS connect terminal, new drivetrain management, efficient engines and powerful hydraulics. In addition, the AgXeed Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) enables fully automated operation with pre-planned work orders in accordance with Autonomy Level 2.

The AXION 9 large tractors cover a power range from 330 to 450 hp with a total of seven models and, in addition to a new cab and self-learning powertrain management, feature a host of innovative features for further automation of work processes in the field.

As the successor to the AXION 900 large tractors, CLAAS is presenting its new AXION 9 series to an international audience of experts at Agritechnica. The five wheeled and two TERRA TRAC crawler tractors set new standards in comfort, automation and connectivity, and were developed with the aim of delivering maximum performance even more efficiently and economically in the field and on the road for large farms and contractors. Sophisticated and further optimised hardware such as the engine, gearbox and axles are combined with a completely redesigned cab, a new electronic infrastructure and a wide range of new assistance systems up to Level 2 Autonomy.

In addition to technical arguments, the seven models impress with individual MAXI CARE service contracts lasting up to 8 years and extended service intervals, as well as the new MAXI CARE FOCUS component warranty for five years or 5,000 operating hours.

Economical, stable and easy to maintain: latest-generation Cursor 9 six-cylinder engine with dynamic AUTO DROOP.
All AXION 9 and AXION 9 TERRA TRAC models are powered by the latest generation Cursor 9 six-cylinder engine from FPT with a displacement of 8.7 litres, maximum power output of 330 to 450 hp and maximum torque of 1,571 to 1,850 Nm. Maximum power and torque are available across a wide speed range and even at low engine speeds. The new dynamic AUTO DROOP function optimally adjusts the engine droop to the current task and the power required in the power train, power take-off shaft and working hydraulics, ensuring optimum power delivery and maximum efficiency at all times. When idling, the speed is reduced to 650 rpm – this saves fuel, provides relief to the environment and lowers the noise level when the tractor is stationary.

The cooling packages can be easily opened for simple and effective blowing out. During operation, the optional reversible fan keeps the cooling packages free of dirt and dust.

The tank capacity of the AXION 9 has been increased to 712 litres, offering even more capacity for particularly long working days. With a tank volume of 860 litres, the AXION 9 TERRA TRAC is still equipped for exceptionally long working shifts. There are also two pole connections next to the cab access for operating mobile fuel pumps.

The engines are approved for operation with hydrotreated vegetable oils (HVO), which reduces the carbon footprint by up to 90 per cent.

With a view to economy and total cost of ownership (TCO), the six-cylinder engine has not only been made more wear-resistant – for example, through optimised liners, new piston crown cooling and new injectors – but also has longer maintenance intervals. From now on, an oil change is only required every 750 operating hours instead of every 600, and the intervals for the most important filters have been extended by 150 to 300 operating hours.

Leading continuously variable technology: CMATIC with adaptive, predictive drivetrain management.
The AXION 9 series also embeds proven, sophisticated hardware in the area of continuously variable power split drives. The electronic drive management system, on the other hand, has been completely redesigned and offers a wide range of new options as well as optimised tuning for performance, comfort and efficiency. With the new vehicle drive controller, operators can switch smoothly and anticipatorily between the direction of travel, but also between pedal mode, joystick mode and PTO mode without any changes in speed or rpm. In each driving mode, oversteering is possible at any time without interruption using the ground drive pedal or CMOTION – for truly continuously variable driving at the highest level.

The Auto Load Anticipation function is groundbreaking, continuously and proactively optimising engine speeds and transmission ratios based on an adaptive algorithm and various efficiency maps for the engine, continuously variable transmission, hydraulics and auxiliary units. Auto Load Anticipation detects load jumps – such as when lowering an attachment into the ground – in advance and proactively increases the engine speed before the load jump occurs. This keeps driving behaviour stable even during dynamic changes and prevents speed drops. Other functions regulate engine speed and transmission ratio depending on load, driving speed and hydraulic requirements. This ensures that the required power is provided under all conditions of use with minimum fuel consumption. The result is highly dynamic and fuel-efficient driving performance without the need for manual input or action by the operator. CLAAS received a silver Agritechnica Innovation Award from the DLG Innovation Commission for its innovative, predictive and fully adaptive drivetrain management system.

New features of the CMATIC gearbox include predictive adaptive powertrain management with Auto Load Anticipation and the automatic trailer overrun brake already familiar from the ARION CMATIC.

The automatic trailer brake, already familiar from the ARION 500 CMATIC and ARION 600 CMATIC, is now also available on the AXION 9, increasing safety when working with heavy trailers and heavy towed implements.

AXION 9 TERRA TRAC: The universal specialist with advanced running gear for maximum soil protection.
The AXION 9.360 and AXION 9.450 are also available as TERRA TRAC versions as an alternative to the standard all-wheel drive tractor design. Thanks to the unique tractor concept with fully suspended chassis, the AXION 9 TERRA TRAC combines tractive force, soil protection and comfort and is suitable as a versatile all-rounder for tasks ranging from mineral and organic fertilisation to plant protection measures and harvest logistics in the field to heavy pulling work and precise sowing with minimal wheel tracks.

Thanks to the TERRA TRAC running gear, the tractors have up to 50 per cent more contact area and, with a maximum external width of 3.00 m, are a practical and economical alternative to twin wheels. Track widths of 457 mm, 635 mm, 735 mm and 890 mm enable a wide range of applications, from mowing or fertilisation on sensitive soils to controlled traffic methods and use in highly developed row crops.

The TERRA TRAC running gear is now equipped with oil sight glasses and, thanks to reinforced track belts and improved roller coatings, has been further optimised for wear.

The versatile AXION 9 TERRA TRAC maximises soil protection and traction from spring to late autumn. It is as easy to drive as a standard tractor – without compromising on comfort. The TERRA TRAC running gear has been further optimised for wear.

The AXION 9 TERRA TRAC can be optionally equipped with a CTIC tyre pressure control system on the front axle to maximise soil protection and traction, especially in very demanding conditions. The CTIC 2800 tyre pressure control system, one of the most powerful systems on the market, is also available as an option for both axles on AXION 9 wheeled tractors. The rear axle can be fitted with tyres up to 2.22 m in diameter. In addition, the AXION 9 is approved for use with twin wheels on the rear and front axles.

Focus on the operator: premium cab with three cubic metres of interior space and 66 db(A).
Another highlight of the new AXION 9 series is the completely redesigned cab. With a volume of around three cubic metres, it offers a new sense of space and plenty of room for premium driver's seats, passenger seats and storage compartments, as well as unrestricted legroom even for tall drivers. Access to the four-pillar cab has been optimised and is now the widest in this tractor class.

The cab has a feel-good atmosphere thanks to selected materials and high-quality surfaces. Premium driver's seats – optionally available with seat ventilation, seat heater and massage function – make even long working days fly by. Thanks to the wide swivel angle of up to 40 degrees to the right (and 10 degrees to the left to make getting in and out even easier), you can keep an eye on your implements without contorting yourself, while your legs can be stretched out completely and rested comfortably on new foot rests on the right A pillar.

In addition, the quality of work or process progress can be monitored via three integrated cameras. A particular highlight is the ability to zoom in and out of high-resolution camera images on the new CEBIS connect terminal and to pan the camera in the required direction with a swipe of the finger. The camera integrated between the front headlights ensures greater safety when leaving blind driveways or entering intersections. It also makes it easier to attach front implements or front ballast weights.

Two additional external camera connections are available for attachments such as potato harvesters or auger wagons.

Three cubic metres of interior space, a noise level of 66 dB(A), a wide entrance with easy-to-close doors, numerous storage options and a seat that can be swivelled 40 degrees to the right – with a massage function on request – mark the completely redesigned cab of the AXION 9.

At just 66 db(A), the new cab of the AXION 9 is also one of the quietest on the market. In addition to special sound-insulating glazing, a reduction in pump noise from the gearbox has also contributed to this. New storage compartments offer non-slip and roll-proof storage space for documents, snacks and drinks, as well as work shoes or, for example, lower and upper link balls.

The newly designed, durable mechanical four-point suspension concept with angled dampers reduces vibrations without compromising suspension and damping comfort. It is also optimally tuned to work with the revised front axle suspension.

A new 360-degree LED lighting concept with up to 22 LED headlamps for a maximum of 56,000 lumens ensures a wide field of vision even during night shifts, thus providing greater safety and optimum visual control of the quality of work by the operator.

What's more, a folding access ladder on the right-hand side, grab handles and railings on the cab make it easier to clean the side windows. The windscreen wiper covers a 280-degree wiping area, guaranteeing optimum forward visibility at all times.

Three cameras provide an optimal view of the surroundings and the rear and front attachment areas. The cameras can be easily swivelled and zoomed in and out with a swipe of the finger.

New CEBIS connect with integrated GPS PILOT for maximum flexibility.
Based on a completely new electronic infrastructure, CLAAS is introducing a new generation of integrated terminals with the AXION 9: CEBIS connect. In addition to the 12-inch main screen integrated into the armrest, all information and applications can also be displayed on a second 12-inch touch terminal, and all functions can be set and configured on both terminals. The menus can be switched freely between the two terminals – whichever is best suited to the task at hand. This means that the GPS PILOT steering system can now be displayed on both the CEBIS connect main screen in the armrest and on the additional 12-inch terminal.

Machine parameters such as speed, consumption, power take-off shafts and hydraulic control circuits are displayed on an additional height-adjustable terminal in the right-hand A pillar. CEBIS connect can thus be used – with one or two displays – for working with implements, automated steering, ISOBUS applications or activated work orders with and without Precision Farming, e.g. for spreading according to application maps and for documentation.

370 litres per minute: hydraulic capacity for the most demanding requirements.
The working hydraulics of the new AXION 9 set new standards with a delivery volume of up to 370 l/min, which is achieved by the standard pump with 220 l/min and an additional optional pump with 150 l/min. In both equipment variants, up to eight double-acting control circuits can be supplied at the rear, as well as front-mounted implements with up to two double-acting control circuits. Thanks to ¾-inch connections at the rear, up to 170 l/min can be supplied through a single line – for example, for the single-acting supply to trailers.

With a lift capacity of 11 to 13 tonnes at the rear and 6.5 tonnes at the front, there are no limits to the AXION 9's capabilities, even with heavy implements. The optional air-assisted mount for the hydraulic upper link is particularly practical, making coupling and uncoupling child's play. Filling takes place while the engine is running via the brake system's air compressor.

The maximum permissible total weight is up to 20,000 kg for the AXION 9 wheeled machines and up to 22,000 kg for the AXION 9 TERRA TRAC.

Powerful rear and front lifting units and an oil flow rate of up to 370 l/min: even the heaviest and widest implements can be handled with ease.

Driver assistance and process optimisation with CEMOS and Auto RefLine.
The AXION 9 introduces further automatic functions and assistance systems to large tractors. Adaptive drivetrain management with Auto Load Anticipation and the dynamic AUTO DROOP function provide relief to the operator and automatically adjust the engine's performance and consumption characteristics and the CMATIC gearbox ratio to the current task and the power required. CEMOS also helps the operator optimise ballasting and tyre pressure.

The adjustment of reference tracks in the field is also automated. The Auto RefLine function recognises when, after completing work in the main working direction of a field, it is time to move on to the headland or work on a wedge, and switches to the appropriate new, logical reference track.

From configuration to optimised use: digitally connected with CLAAS connect.
From machine configuration, purchase processing, access to product documentation and the lubricant guide, to maintenance planning and documentation, cross-manufacturer fleet management, application maps and other smart farming applications: depending on the licence for the new AXION 9, CLAAS connect enables comprehensive networking with automated documentation and access from the office or via a mobile device while on the move. Basic services such as machine position, machine performance data, lubricant guide and direct access to the CLAAS Parts Shop for ordering suitable wear and spare parts can be significantly expanded with Farm connect, Fleet connect and Field connect licences:

  • Clear order management: Orders are conveniently created in CLAAS connect and accessed on CEBIS connect in the cab. Orders can be documented and managed directly on the machine.
  • Automatic documentation: Field work can be automatically documented without creating orders, ensuring a complete database.
  • Real-time information: Machine position and status as well as current machine data, settings and performance data can be viewed remotely from anywhere – in some cases even across different manufacturers. This enables convenient navigation to the machine's location, for example. In addition, CLAAS connect informs the user how long the work in the field is expected to take while processing orders – regardless of how many machines are currently working in the field.
  • Analyse and optimise: Detailed analyses enable optimisations and comparisons between different machines of the same type in the vehicle fleet – particularly important for contractors and large farms.

In addition, CLAAS connect is the interface for the highly automated to autonomous use of the AXION 9. This is not a dream of the future, but will be reality from 2026 in conjunction with the AgXeed VCU.

If a CLAAS connect ID already exists on the farm, the AXION 9 is simply added to the existing machine fleet and is then networked free of charge for an initial period of 5 years with a Machine connect licence. If no CLAAS connect ID exists on the farm, one can be created when purchasing the tractor.

The next step towards Autonomy: fully automated task completion with the AgXeed VCU.
With the new AXION 9, CLAAS is taking the next step towards comprehensive Autonomy. By using the AgXeed VCU (Vehicle Control Unit) developed in collaboration with AgXeed, pre-created work orders can be processed completely automatically. The AgXeed VCU is simply connected to the ISOBUS of the AXION 9. Customers then have access to the AgXeed TraXwise platform via CLAAS connect ID and can easily import their work orders with field and machine data, marked obstacles and track planning from CLAAS connect to the cloud with just a few clicks of the mouse. Work orders then appear in TraXwise on the tablet in the tractor cab, where they can be started with just a tap of the finger. The tractor and attachment then carry out the field work completely independently, including automated steering, obstacle avoidance, headland management and, in the case of application equipment, site-specific rate control via the application map entered in CLAAS connect. While the task is being processed automatically, the status and live performance data can be viewed at any time from authorised end devices with the respective CLAAS connect ID.

Once a work order has been completed, the automatically documented data is stored in TraXwise and simultaneously displayed in CLAAS connect, where it can be used for further evaluation and for billing and documentation purposes.

With this Autonomy Level 2 solution, the operator remains in the cab, but can concentrate fully on monitoring the quality of the work and the optimum performance of the tractor and attachment. In addition, the operator is able to override the task at any time – for example, in the event of unforeseeable obstacles such as moisture-affected, impassable areas of the field, broken branches at the edge of the field or previously unmarked field stones.

The Autonomy Level 2 solution with AgXeed VCU will be available for the first time in 2026 for CLAAS AXION 9 and XERION 12 large tractors.

Thanks to the networking of CLAAS connect with the AgXeed VCU and the AgXeed TraXwise portal, work orders can be completed and documented fully automatically.

50 per cent less service time and up to 8 years warranty: maintenance and profitability further optimised.
It is not only the extended engine maintenance intervals that simplify maintenance and reduce running costs. In addition, maintenance-related downtime can be reduced by 50 per cent. Almost all replacement intervals – from the oil in the front axle to the cab filter – have been extended by several hundred operating hours. The oil change interval for the CMATIC gearbox has even been extended from 600 to 1,500 operating hours.

The central lubrication system, which also supplies the front axle and, in the AXION 9 TERRA TRAC, the running gear, further provides relief during daily maintenance. A hand wash basin at the cab access and compressed air connections on the outside and inside the cab make regular cleaning of the AXION 9 a clean affair.

A new central lubrication system continuously supplies the front axle and, on the AXION 9 TERRA TRAC, the lubrication points of the TERRA TRAC drive wheels with lubricant, which provides relief to the operator and ensures optimum lubrication at all times.

Secure costs with foresight: MAXI CARE FOCUS and MAXI CARE PROTECT for up to eight years or 8,000 operating hours.
Today's professional farmers and contractors want to secure their machinery costs in advance. With MAXI CARE FOCUS for the AXION 9, CLAAS offers a solution that is fully tailored to customer needs. The new component warranty on the engine, gearbox and front axle covers a period of five years or 5,000 operating hours – at no extra cost.

MAXI CARE PROTECT goes one step further: this warranty extension covers all claims included in the statutory warranty for a period of up to eight years or 8,000 operating hours – including the cost of original CLAAS spare parts, operating materials and repair work.
