Rabat: Launch of Activities of Morocco's Economic Office at OECD

Rabat - Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, launched, Monday in Rabat, the activities of the economic office of Morocco at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), as part of the second phase of implementation of the Morocco-OECD Country Program, signed on June 25, 2019.

This strategic project, implemented with the support of the Department of the Head of Government and several national institutions, aims to raise the economic cooperation with this organization to a new level, by providing the Kingdom with a tool available to all 38 member countries of the OECD, and to enhance the economic image and influence of Morocco internationally.

The geographic office Morocco has the mission to prepare, according to a specific methodology and precise steps, the OECD Economic Survey on Morocco through a cross-cutting analysis, based on solid international comparisons and promoting the sharing of experiences.

The office will also ensure the preparation of economic forecasts, in the fall and spring, with a country note summarizing recent developments, the two-year outlook, and reform priorities. These forecasts and analyses are published in the OECD Economic Outlook twice a year, along with an assessment of ongoing structural reforms.

Speaking on this occasion, Fettah stressed that Morocco has a strong relationship with the OECD, noting that the launch of the activities of the Moroccan Economic Office at the OECD is an important step in the implementation of the second phase of the OECD-Morocco Country Program.

She also said that Morocco is the first country in Africa and the MENA region to be part of this country program with the OECD, adding that this economic office "would allow us to benefit from the experiences of OECD countries in the economic and social fields".

For his part, head of the Middle East and Africa Division of the OECD, Carlos Conde, said that the launch of this economic office is a real qualitative leap for the engagement of Morocco with the OECD, noting that it would allow Morocco to participate in the committees of economic affairs of the OECD.

He added that the economic office would include the Kingdom in the statistical databases of the OECD, in addition to strengthening its capacity.
