The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad issued on 18 March 2022 a statement where it highly appreciates Spain's positive positions and constructive commitments on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, contained in the message addressed to His Majesty King Mohammed VI by the President of the Spanish Government, H.E. Mr. Pedro Sánchez.

As such, "Spain considers the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco in 2007, as the basis, the most serious, realistic and credible, for resolving the dispute”.
