Jordskælv i New Zealand

Gouda Rejseforsikring følger udviklingen i situationen tæt. Den Australske regering vejleder således:

"We advise you to be alert to your own security in New Zealand. 
•You should reconsider your need to travel to Christchurch and surrounding districts until further notice due to the disruption to essential services caused by the earthquake that affected the area on 22 February 2011. Australians in the Christchurch area, particularly tourists and short-term visitors, should carefully consider their ongoing need to remain. A state of emergency is in place in Christchurch City. 
•From 6.30PM on 23 February, strict cordon restrictions were imposed by the authorities in central Christchurch. Any unauthorised person remaining within the cordon area of Deans Avenue, Moorhouse Avenue, Fitzgerald Avenue and Bealey Avenue risks being arrested. 
•The magnitude 6.3 earthquake caused significant damage to roads and buildings in Christchurch. New Zealand authorities have confirmed a large number of deaths and injuries. Strong aftershocks are continuing. 
•Australians in the Christchurch area should monitor the NZ Civil Defence website for latest information and follow the advice of local authorities. 
•You can get help in Christchurch from Australian officials stationed at the Copthorne Commodore Hotel at 449 Memorial Avenue (near Christchurch airport). The contact number for this office is +64 3 358 8129. See under Where to Get Help for details. 
•If you are concerned about Australians in Christchurch you should in the first instance try to contact them directly. New Zealand authorities recommend text messaging to avoid congestion on the mobile network. If this is unsuccessful, you can contact the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade 24-hour Consular Emergency Centre on +61 2 6261 3305 (from overseas) or 1300 555 135 (within Australia). 
•Exercise common sense and look out for suspicious behaviour, as you would in Australia. 
•Be a smart traveller. Before heading overseas: 
◦organise comprehensive travel insurance and check what circumstances and activities are not covered by your policy. Personal injury and income protection insurance is also strongly recommended for travel to New Zealand. Australian visitors can incur significant medical and travel costs or loss of income on return to Australia as a result of accidents in New Zealand and are not entitled to compensation for these from New Zealand’s national accident compensation scheme. 
◦register your travel and contact details , so we can contact you in an emergency 
◦subscribe to this travel advice to receive free email updates each time it's reissued."
