FIRST PRIZE IN ÅLESUND
Our proposal "Sundbyen" received a 1st prize in the competition for the future development of Ålesund in Norway.
The jury states: ”The scale of the building and proposed shapes seems very attractive, and the structure makes good connections to the existing city... The jury has great sympathy for the proposal’s main concept because it refines and maintains the qualities the city already has.”
For the past year, we have been refining last year's winning scheme and working on resolving traffic issues, cruise ship security challenges, public input and more.
In the process of planning the new southern harbor front, we have discovered and unravelled some of the hidden potentials of Ålesund. Dronning Sonjas Plass is one of them. Our proposal for this prime location has fueled a public discussion in the local newspaper, which stated "from a no man's land to a place to be proud of". Dronning Sonjas Plass is a natural extension of the work we are doing on the southern harbour and including it in the future development would transform an 'urban void' into a pivotal anchor point of the city.
