Milepæl: Tyra er igen forbundet til de omkringliggende felter
Esbjerg, 7. september 2023 – Tyra-genopbygningsprojektet har nu nået endnu en vigtig milepæl på vejen til at genoptage produktionen: Projektteamet har afsluttet arbejdet med den undersøiske infrastruktur, som forbinder Tyra med de omkringliggende felter. Sammen vil felterne yde et vigtigt bidrag til Danmarks og Europas energisikkerhed og uafhængighed, når produktionen er tilbage i fuld drift.
Under ombygningen blev forbindelsen mellem Tyra og de omkringliggende felter midlertidigt blokeret, og satellitplatformene Svend, Roar, Harald, Valdemar og Tyra Sydøst blev sat i inaktiv tilstand for at muliggøre nedtagning af den gamle Tyra og installation af den nye Tyra.
”Kort før sommerferien blev Tyra igen forbundet til Danmark efter en vellykket installation af forbindelsestykket på gaseksportrørledningen til land. Nu har vi forbundet hele netværket af kritisk infrastruktur omkring Tyra-feltet. Dermed er vi klar til at starte og styre de ubemandede satellitfelter igen, hvilket er et afgørende skridt mod produktionsstart”, siger Michael Lindholm Pihl Larsen, teknisk projektleder for Tyra-genopbygningsprojektet hos TotalEnergies EP Danmark A /S.
Gassen fra de omkringliggende felter vil blive behandlet på den højteknologiske procesplatform ved Tyra Øst. Her vil gassen blive renset og nedkølet, hvorefter den sendes mod land ved hjælp af kompressorer.
”På det nye Tyra har vi syv gaskompressorer, baseret på den nyeste teknologi. De er alle elektrisk drevne, hvilket sikrer lavere CO2-udledning. Kompressorerne er meget vigtige for opstarten af Tyra, da de behandler gassen fra Tyra og de omkringliggende felter og sender den videre mod land. I øjeblikket arbejder projektteamet døgnet rundt på at teste og starte kompressorerne, den ene efter den anden. Indenfor den seneste måned har vi bl.a. testet den afgørende eksportkompressor, som skal transportere den første gas til Danmark denne vinter”, forklarer Michael Lindholm Pihl Larsen.
Med genskabelsen af forbindelsen mellem Tyra og satellitfelterne samt den vellykkede test af eksportgaskompressoren, er det største infrastrukturprojekt i den danske Nordsø nu i den allersidste fase, hvor alle kræfter er sat ind på at udføre grundige test af udstyret. Det er essentielt for at verificere pålideligheden af systemerne, garantere høj kvalitet og skabe sikre arbejdsforhold for medarbejderne, inden der kommer gas ind i de nye faciliteter og Tyra-produktionen genstartes i vintersæsonen 2023/24.
Fakta om genopbygningen af Tyra
- TotalEnergies er operatør af Tyra-feltet på vegne af DUC – et partnerskab mellem TotalEnergies (43,2%), BlueNord (36,8%) og Nordsøfonden (20%).
- Tyra er Danmarks største naturgasfelt og har været et midtpunkt for behandling og eksport af mere end 90% af den naturgas, der produceres i den danske del af Nordsøen, før det skulle genopbygges. Dette var nødvendigt, fordi feltet naturligt var sunket ned i kridtreservoiret efter mange års produktion.
- Genopbygningen af Tyra-feltet omfatter tre hoveddele: nedlukning og genanvendelse af de gamle Tyra-platforme; genanvendelse og forlængelse af de nuværende platformsben med 13 meter på seks af platformene samt et helt nyt procesmodul og en ny beboelsesplatform.
- Når det moderniserede Tyra II er tilbage i drift, vil det være det mest moderne naturgasfelt i verden og forventes at levere 2,8 milliarder kubikmeter gas om året til Danmark og Europa gennem eksportrørledningerne til Nybro og Den Helder.
- Tyra II vil levere fortsat produktion af naturgas med 30% mindre CO2-udledning og bidrage til gasforbruget i Danmark og Europa.

Milestone: The Tyra hub is now reconnected to the surrounding fields
Esbjerg, 7 September 2023 – The Tyra Redevelopment project has now marked yet another important milestone on the path to resume production: The project team has completed the final work on the subsea infrastructure which connects Tyra with the surrounding fields. Together, the fields will contribute to Denmark's and Europe’s energy security and independence once Tyra’s production is back at full capacity.
During the redevelopment, Tyra and the surrounding fields were temporarily disconnected and the satellite platforms Svend, Roar, Harald, Valdemar and Tyra South East were put into idle mode to enable the removal of the old Tyra and installation of the new Tyra.
“Before the summer break, Tyra was reconnected to Denmark following the successful installation of the final connecting riser piece on the gas export pipeline to shore. Now, we have closed the full circuit of critical infrastructure around the Tyra field. With the milestone achieved, we are ready to power-up and operate the surrounding unmanned satellite fields once again which is a crucial step towards first gas”, says Michael Lindholm Pihl Larsen, Technical Project Lead of the Tyra Redevelopment Project at TotalEnergies EP Denmark A/S.
The gas coming from the surrounding fields will be treated at the high-tech processing platform at Tyra East. Here, the final dehydrated and cooled product will be created and exported with the help of compressors.
“At the new Tyra, we have seven gas compressors which are all made with the newest technology, and they are all electrically driven ensuring lower CO2 emissions. The compressors are highly important for the start-up of Tyra as they process and supply the gas from Tyra and the surrounding fields to shore. Currently, the team works diligently to test one compressor after the other. During the past month, we managed to successfully test the crucial export compressor which will distribute first gas to Denmark this winter”, explains Michael Lindholm Pihl Larsen.
With the reconnection of the Tyra hub and test of the export gas compressor achieved, the largest infrastructure project in the Danish North Sea is now in the final phase where all hands are on deck, performing thorough tests of the equipment to verify the integrity of the systems, guarantee high quality, and ensure safe work conditions for the crew before gas will enter the new facilities and re-start Tyra’s production in the winter season 2023/24.
Facts on the Tyra Redevelopment
- TotalEnergies is the operator of the Tyra field on behalf of DUC – a partnership between TotalEnergies (43.2%), BlueNord (36.8%) and Nordsøfonden (20%).
- Tyra is Denmark's largest natural gas field and has been a center for processing and exporting more than 90% of the natural gas produced in the Danish North Sea before its redevelopment. This was necessary due to the field's natural subsidence of the chalk reservoir after many years of production.
- The redevelopment of the Tyra field includes three main elements: decommissioning and recycling of the old Tyra platforms; recycling and extending the current platform legs on six of the platforms with 13 meters, which will have new topsides; a completely new process module and a new accommodation platform.
- Once the modernized Tyra II is back on stream, it will be the most modern natural gas field in the world and is expected to deliver 2.8 billion cubic meter gas per year to Denmark and Europe through the export pipelines to Nybro and Den Helder.
- Tyra II will secure continued production of natural gas with 30% less CO2 emissions and contribute to gas consumption in Denmark and Europe.
- More than 1,500 people offshore and over 250 people on land are currently working on the final redevelopment activities such as reinstating the compressors and testing equipment.
