Pan-European Impact

Various round tables spread over Europe are successfully connecting universities, software vendors, consultants, and end-users. However, there is a clear need to lift this to the European level. EIT ICT Labs is supporting the consolidation of successful national BPM round tables into a single European BPM round table where experiences could be exchanged, knowledge transferred, and new initiatives initiated at the European level. The presentations as given on November 5th reported on experiences in successfully transferring state-of-the-art BPM research results to practical applications. Moreover, important challenges that urgently need to be addressed by the BPM community were discussed.

Opportunity to turn BPM research into economic activity

Europe is clearly leading in BPM research as can be seen at the main conferences in the field and the enormous impact of the research in terms of citations (BPM researchers are among the most cited computers scientists in the world). Nevertheless, most of today’s BPM software comes from the US. This illustrates that there is an opportunity to turn research results into new economic activity. Therefore the European BPM Round Table has to increase the visibility of BPM research and its economic potential.
