Press release -
Elephant Parade Brazil National Tour visits two new venues
This June, Elephant Parade is continuing its national tour of Brazil at Brasilia’s Park Shopping Mall.
Following the success of last year’s auction in Rio, Elephant Parade has set its sights on bringing art and vibrancy to a number of other major cities in the country – Campinas and Brasilia being the latest stops for an evolving national tour. The full-sized herd of 40 elephant art pieces showcases the artistic talents of Brazilian artists while using public art to raise global awareness of elephant conservation issues.
Following the conclusion of the Brasilia showcase on 26 June www.elephantparade.com.br Elephant Parade will visit two further cities in the second half of the year, after which the touring elephants with be auctioned to raise funds to support elephant conservation. Part of the money raised will be passed to global conservation charity, Elephant Family, with local philanthropy projects in Brazil also being earmarked for support.
Rene de Wit, Director of Elephant Parade, comments: “Over the last 13 years, Elephant Parade has travelled the world, raising public awareness on the plight of the elephant and the conservation issues we need to tackle together. We have always used vibrant art as the vehicle to unite, engage and inspire people - and together, we can paint a brighter future for the elephant. The work that has been done by our Brazil team has helped us take the elephant message to a new continent, and we are delighted by the warm public reaction to the touring herd.”
Giovane Pasa and Carolina Barreto, Directors of Elephant Parade Brazil, add: “As you know, elephants are loved everywhere on the planet. In Brazil, there is a belief that the elephant brings good luck. People are attracted to the animal's beauty and intelligence. Through Elephant Parade’s tour of Brazil, we are connecting a new generation of young people with one of the world’s greatest species, and together we will safeguard the elephant’s future.”
Elephant Parade is the world’s largest open-air art exhibition of decorated elephant statues that seeks to attract public awareness and support for Asian elephant conservation. Created by local and international artists, each elephant is a unique piece of art. 20% of Elephant Parade net profits are donated to elephant welfare and conservation projects.
