Elephant Parade extends the Global Artbox Contest

Six months into the Elephant Parade global artbox contest, more than 230 people from 24 countries have submitted design entries.

Launched on 1 July 2014, the Global Elephant Parade Artbox Contest - presented by Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas - is a creative art competition where people can paint their own 15cm elephant design for the chance to gain a commission to create a full size Elephant Parade art piece for Elephant Parade Bangkok in 2015.

Elephant Parade Bangkok, originally planned to start this summer, will now start in December 2015, making it possible to extend the art box contest until 30 April 2015.

The competition launched to coincide with the finale of Elephant Parade’s national tour of 13 UK cities and the global movement’s debut in Hong Kong, The quality and number of entries submitted for the competition have surpassed expectations;

To date, the competition has appealed to people of all ages - ranging from a four year old to a 70 year old. Already three people have created designs inspired by the Captain America movie – and a Super Mario elephant has also proven to be a popular choice!

Many entries have also come in from countries that are yet to enjoy hosting an Elephant Parade exposition. The stories behind the designs are inspirational.

Mike Spits, Founder and CEO of Elephant Parade commented: “The Global Artbox Contest is a reflection of the Global Movement Elephant Parade is building. With the competition now closing on 30 April 2015, there is still plenty of time for people to get an Elephant Parade art box and be part of this really exciting programme. Over the last eight years, Elephant Parade has trail-blazed major cultural centres of the world and been supported by top artists and public figures. The art box contest gives a new platform for tomorrow’s talent to make their mark and we hope Elephant Parade will play it’s part in letting the world discover the great artists of tomorrow. The project is fun but it also helps raise awareness of the plight of the elephant. Through art we can all paint a brighter future.”
