A place for youths to thrive

Christine Dalman, Storage Expert at Elfa, is today sharing tips and ideas on how to turn a child’s room into a proper teen space with a good storage system, and room for gaming, schoolwork and hanging out with friends.

Need ideas for your teen's bedroom? To help you get started decorating a room your teenager will love, Christine Dalman has rounded up three teen bedroom ideas you can accomplish in almost any space, no matter its shape or size.

Create space for friends, schoolwork and hobbies

As your youngsters grow up, they tend to need more space. Friends are coming over, they have new hobbies, do sports, and they have more and more homework to do. So, in most teenagers’ rooms you need storage space in abundance. Well, size in terms of square meterage is not that crucial, but the storage solutions do need to be functional and smart.

One way of creating more space with smart storage, is to mount a storage wall, with shelves for books, a storage board, hooks, and a desk with drawers.

And then we have all your teen’s clothes and possessions. I suggest a made-to-measure wardrobe. With sliding doors and storage from floor to ceiling, there is no dead space. Plenty of room for storage!

Introduce smart storage

To be honest, it’s only natural if your teen’s room is cluttered with too many things. They collect new stuff as their taste and interests change, and are yet to rid itself of their pre-loved toys and board games. Nothing strange at all, but it can be hard keeping the room tidy and finding your things when you’re in a hurry. However, it only takes a few smart storage solutions to make things a lot easier.

For instance, chose a storage solution that can be easily modified, because teens tend to change interest and style every so often. Also, make sure keys, school and sports bags are easy to find and reach when you’re on the go. If there’s limited space for storage, use the door!

And, mirrors make the room feel more spacious. They are also great for checking hair and clothes before stepping out the door.

Let them set their own style

Last but not least, I think it’s important that you let your teen set his or her own style and touch in the room. They may be interested in online gaming, cars, technological advancements, featured characters from comic books and movies, and whatnot. I suggest a display space!
