A room that plays along
Building dens, lining up soft toys, painting masterpieces – children’s rooms are rarely still. They shift from play to calm and back again. The aim is to create a setting that supports imagination, reading and schoolwork; storage can’t do it all, but it can make everyday life easier – and more fun, as our expert Frida Swanson knows.
Kids thrive when they get the chance to play, create and explore – but just as important is having a sense of calm and a place to call their own. Somewhere to draw, read, daydream, and stash their favourite things.
With flexible storage, a children’s room can evolve as your child does. Needs and interests change quickly, but that doesn’t mean starting over with new furniture each time. Instead, the conscious – and simplest – way is to adjust or add to what you already have. A bookcase can grow taller, a wardrobe can be reshaped, and shelves or baskets can shift as routines change. In this way, the room keeps up with childhood – practical, playful, and always ready for what comes next.
In the end, it’s about giving space to what matters most: imagination, play and everything in between.
Three smart storage tips for the children’s room
Creating order in a children’s room may feel tricky, but sometimes small adjustments are enough to make a big difference. Our storage expert Frida Swanson shares her best advice:
Storage at child level
Finding clothes, toys and books becomes much easier when shelves, drawers and hooks are placed within reach. As children grow, the height can be adjusted so the storage continues to work.
Make the most of tricky spaces
Turning areas under a sloped ceiling or in a narrow corner into storage creates useful space for books, toys or clothes. It’s an effective way to free up floor area and keep the room organised.
Balance open and closed storage
Combining baskets and open shelves with closed solutions means favourite things are always visible, while clutter is kept out of sight. This gives the room both energy and calm.
