Popping into our homes some 20 years away

Charlotte Mattfolk, a renowned entrepreneur and strategic advisor has long experience of painting the future and its possibilities. Here are four future home trends that Charlotte say will become the norm in 10 to 20 years.

More home services

According to Charlotte, there will be a dramatic increase in the number of home services in the next 20 years.

- Today, some use services of cleaning and food delivery. But in the future, there will be more and new services. I believe, for example, that laundry services will change. My guess is that we won’t even do our washing at home.

Increased home smartness

We’ve already seen how the mobile phone usage has evolved enormously. But the mobile technology has still not been used throughout the home.

- There has been a lot of talk about connected fridges, freezers, ovens, washing machines. This is all happening now. And, looking to the future, services from connected technology at our homes, will only increase. Furthermore, this connected technology will be affordable and available to the broad masses.

Owning things is becoming less important

- Younger generations have less need to own physical things. If you put that in the context of digitalization and metaverse, it’s easy to imagine that in future, we will be registering and keeping track of our belongings in these worlds, instead of owning them.

Storage that facilitate circularity

Circular behaviour is steadily increasing, and that will doubtless have effect on our storage solutions. Charlotte takes the example of wardrobes.

- In future, we will likely store our clothes in a way that allows people to just come in, pick some clothes and then go out. There will also be integrated technology, making it easier to keep track of our things.
