The dream of a walk-in closet is closer than you think

A walk-in closet is something many people dream of — but it doesn’t require an extra room or a large amount of space. According to Ewa Magnusson, storage expert at Elfa, more and more homeowners are discovering that even a small cupboard, a narrow niche or an unused corner can be transformed into a functional walk-in or step-in closet.

The images illustrate how using the full height of a room and keeping the floor clear, combined with lighting, mirrors and a balanced mix of shelves, pull-out drawers and hanging space, makes even small areas feel calmer and easier to navigate.

“People are realising that a dream closet can be created on very little space. It’s not about how big the room is, but how smartly you use it,” says Ewa Magnusson, Storage Expert.

As Ewa explains, this shift is largely driven by a growing understanding of how flexible systems can make small areas feel more structured and spacious. When the full height of a room is used — and the floor is kept clear — even compact spaces become easier to navigate and visually calmer. Lighting, mirrors and a thoughtful balance of shelves, pull-out drawers and hanging space further enhance the sense of overview and atmosphere.

Elfa’s Classic and Décor+ systems make it possible to create everything from a compact, practical step-in solution to a walk-in experience with a more furnished expression. Both are built on the same flexible foundation, making it easy to plan a space that suits your routines as well as your style.

For many, this becomes a meaningful upgrade — a dedicated space for everyday order and a place that feels personal, even on small square metres. Whether it’s a corner, a cupboard or a niche, the dream of a walk-in is often much closer than expected.
