"Tidy up your room"

Now, how is that for a flashback? It turns out that our parents were right all the time. An untidy home makes our wellbeing suffer.

According to a recent survey of Swedes, as many as 28 % of all subjects find untidy homes negative for their wellbeing. Most of the subjects wish to bring order to their belongings. In fact, as many as 13 % of all subjects have lost track of where they keep things. Seeing our homes turn into home-offices has not made life any easier.

Evidently, there is a lot to gain for everybody just by keeping things tidy. Research has shown that by doing so, stress and anxiety can be reduced by 20 %. But where do we start?

Families with young children seek more storage space. “But, there is also a lot we can do with the space there is”, says Christine Dalman, Elfa’s very own expert on storage solutions. “There are three improvements that makes wonders to many families. Organize all the shoes in the hallway, do the same with all loose, electronic equipment that clutters the living room. Lastly, find ways to get used clothes off the bedroom floor.”

It doesn’t have to be more complicated than this to make life at home a little better.

About the survey:

The survey was carried out in 20-23 March, 2020, by YouGov, an independent market research company, on behalf of Elfa. It is an online survey covering a total of 1011 people, aged between 18 and 74 years. The choice of interviewees is representative of the Swedish population with regard to gender, age and religion.
