People’s infinite need for smart storage

Elfa’s Storage Report spotlights Scandinavian consumers’ rising desire for smarter storage at home, and a more sustainable living.

For the fourth year in a row, Elfa is issuing the Storage report, spotlighting Scandinavian consumers’ habits and attitudes towards storage. The study shows that as many as 8 out of 10 feel they have too many things and cloths at home, and 5 out of 10 feel they don’t have enough room at home for all their things. The biggest challenge is apparently finding space for unused shoes and clothes.

- Consumers’ continued abundance of things and the resultant almost infinite need for smart storage solutions, are evident. At the same time, the report shows that consumers are increasingly willing to change their habits and live more sustainably, says Christine Dalman, Storage Expert at Elfa.

The Elfa Storage report is published annually and is based on an in-depth survey covering a total of 4040 people aged between 18 and 74 years from Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. The survey was conducted in August 2018 by the independent market research company YouGov, on behalf of Elfa.

  • On door storage

Do you have a chair in your bedroom that serves as a temporary wardrobe?

Instead of accumulating a clothing stack on the chair beside your bed, try creating an “intermediate station” where you can air and store clothing that is not yet ready to be tossed in the laundry basket. Suggestions for an intermediate station include a clothes rail or hooks and smart shelving systems for your wardrobe.
