Game of Streams: The future of Advertising is the Internet

Our consultant Magnus Svensson is sharing his reflections from the online industry in the monthly series, Game of Streams. In the latest post he argues that ad-supported streaming services will become successful, but only if you deliver high-quality content with respect to both video and ads.

Speaking at the IAB Engage 2005 conference in London, Bill Gates told delegates that traditional media such as television, newspapers, and magazines would move to be delivered via the internet within the next decade.

“- The future of advertising is the internet”, Gates said.

With this said, we’re in the future now, and I believe that statement is very much valid. According to Mediavision, the average Nordic household has 1,7 subscription streaming services. And even if this will increase to 2 per household, there will simply not be room for all services that exist and is about to exist. A household will “fill up” with ad-supported services once they have subscribed to their 1,7 subscription services.
