Faber-Castell family reaffirms support for "DNA of Democracy" project to mark Law Day
The 9th generation of the Faber-Castell family sends a strong signal in favour of democracy and underlines the importance of the Basic Law.
Stein, 22.5.2025 - On the occasion of Germany’s Basic Law Day on 23 May, the siblings Count Charles von Faber-Castell, Countess Katharina von Faber-Castell, Countess Sarah von Faber-Castell and Countess Victoria von Faber-Castell reaffirm their support for the innovative "DNA of Democracy" project. The initiative, which was launched to mark the 75th anniversary of the German constitution last year, aims to raise awareness of the German constitution and democratic values in society in the long term.
"One year after the start of the project, we are proud to continue to be part of this important initiative," explains Count Charles von Faber-Castell. "Family businesses are based on values that are passed on from generation to generation. We as a society must do the same for democracy."
For the "DNA of Democracy" project, the text of the Basic Law was converted into a DNA sequence and incorporated into a specially developed ink. Faber-Castell is supporting this unique initiative with the "Carbon Black" ink and the "Guilloche Black Edition" fountain pens of Graf von Faber-Castell Collection, with the symbolic engraving "GG" for German Basic Law (“Grundgesetz”). This combination of science, innovation and writing culture makes the foundation of our democracy literally tangible.
Countess Victoria von Faber-Castell emphasises: "Democracy begins with the courage to express oneself. Handwriting is a personal act that requires awareness, depth and responsibility. That is precisely why we support the 'DNA of Democracy' campaign. Because writing is more than just a tool. It is a voice."
The siblings' support also extends to the ongoing crowdfunding project "Demokratie muss" (https://www.startnext.com/demokratiemuss ). This ambitious project aims to publish a book entitled "Demokratie muss" ("Democracy must") with 146 contributions from personalities from politics, business, science, culture and civil society - symbolising the 146 articles of the German Basic Law. The four siblings have written statements for the book themselves, highlighting their personal commitment to the project and the values of democracy.
“In these politically turbulent times, we see how important it is to continually strengthen awareness of our democratic foundations,’ adds Sarah Gräfin von Faber-Castell. "Right now, we need spaces that make diversity visible, celebrate colourfulness and see differences as enriching. The planned book is a fascinating symbol of how we can use innovation to preserve our democratic heritage, think ahead and live in all its diversity.”
Katharina Gräfin von Faber-Castell calls on everyone to get involved: ‘With our contributions to the book “Demokratie muss”, we want to express not only our personal commitment to democratic values, but also inspire others to actively support our democracy. Every voice counts, and everyone can make a contribution.’
