Thinking in generations: sustainability beyond trends
Sustainability Insights 2024/25 showcasing holistic commitment / 8,200 hectares of forest managed in Brazil / Children’s Fund Foundation marks 25th anniversary / Code of Conduct fosters transparency
Stein, February 25, 2026 – Under the motto “Change needs creativity”, Faber-Castell has published its updated “Sustainability Insights” and “Sustainability Details” for the fiscal year 2024/25. The family-owned business with heritage for nine generations reaffirms its long-term environmental, social and business commitment, illustrating its consistent progress in responsible corporate practices.
Responsible forestry, renewable energy and recycled pens
A central focus is on environmental responsibility. Faber-Castell manages 8,200 hectares of forest in Brazil, an area equivalent to approximately 11,000 football pitches. These forests serve not only as a sustainable source of raw materials and provide a vital habitat for 722 different animal species. The company demonstrates its commitment to responsible forestry management by planting 300,000 new pine tree seedlings each year and maintaining a total of 4.5 million pine trees. Furthermore, 87 per cent of the electricity used across all Faber-Castell sites worldwide comes from renewable sources. The growing number of pens manufactured from recycled plastics since 2016 demonstrates the company's embrace of plastic alternatives.
Children’s aid and education in focus
In the area of social responsibility, Faber-Castell is celebrating a significant anniversary in 2026: 25 years since the establishment of the Graf von Faber-Castell Children’s Fund Foundation. This foundation supports humanitarian children’s aid projects in kindergartens, schools, hospitals, and orphanages worldwide. The company also promotes creativity and education on a broader scale through numerous initiatives such as painting and drawing competitions in various countries. The introduction of the Diversity-Equity-Inclusion Guideline (DEI Guideline) in 2025 further underscores the company’s commitment to diversity and equal opportunities on a global scale.
Company-wide Code of Conduct
In terms of business responsibility, the company maintains a value-based culture. The “Faber-Castell Charter”, the company’s in-house Code of Conduct, provides employees with clear behavioural guidelines that support fairness and transparency in all their actions. Since 2003, the company has been a participant in the UN Global Compact, the United Nations' initiative for sustainable and responsible corporate governance.
“As a family-owned company, we think in generations, not quarters. Sustainability is not a trend for us but an integral part of our value culture and a proven success factor,” emphasises Dr. Susanne Veldung, Head of Corporate ESG / Sustainability & Brand Equity at Faber-Castell.
Each year, Faber-Castell presents its environmental, social and business commitment through specific projects in its “Sustainability Insights”. The latest key figures and data on the company’s sustainability performance are published in the “Sustainability Details”.
