Fagerhult prescribes better lighting in care and launches Eira and MultiFive Medical

Lighting is one of the keys to a better quality of care. Based on research on how light makes us feel better, Fagerhult launches innovative new concept that puts health professionals and patients in the centre.

Together with partners in medical research, lighting research and care, Fagerhult has developed an inspiring concept that builds on the needs of nursing staff for better lighting solutions. "Light for caring heroes" includes complete lighting solutions for hospitals and nursing homes.

– Research shows that we need more and better light for caring personnel to perform in the best way and to make patients feel well, says Christer Liljegren who is application responsible for healthcare at Fagerhult.

The society is focusing on energy savings for economical reasons and for lower environmental impact.

– The easiest way to save is to turn off the lights but low lighting levels are devastating to the quality of care and makes it difficult for staff who are already working under heavy pressure to make a good job. Therefore, we focus on developing luminaires specifically intended for healthcare, based on energy-efficient LED technology and the latest control systems.

The new LED luminaire Eira has been developed for the requirements of advanced functionality and flexibility that occurs when healthcare is increasingly built around single patient rooms. In its basic design, the luminaire can be used for general lighting. Complemented with a "performance ring" one can also increase the light output, for example, in connection with examination.

Eira has been developed in collaboration with the leading British lighting design firm Speirs + Major, who investigated the special needs of light in the H&C area.

– The objective was to create a light that facilitates the work for the staff but also gives the best possible experience for the patient, said Andrew Howis, designer at Speirs + Major.

Fagerhults new lighting solutions for healthcare also include the recessed luminaire MultiFive Medical. LEDs and T5 lamps in combination with advanced reflector technology provide both general, examination and reading light. Eira and MultiFive Medical both meet the requirements of the lighting standard EN 12464-1:2011. They are based on Fagerhults research about ambient lighting and its importance for human well-being. Recent research, lighting proposals and the complete luminaire range is presented on Fagerhults website www.fagerhult.com.
