Growth for Falck in Brazil

Falck Fire & Safety do Brasil SA has just signed a 3-year contract for airport rescue and firefighting services (ARFFS) to the Belo Horizonte International Airport with the option to extend the contract for one more year.

Executive Vice President, Hans Jensen, states:

“Our high level of quality supported by written ISO procedures combined with the ability to train airport firefighters on duty will give Falck a strong competitive advantage in Brazil, and I foresee continued growth for Falck in the airport segment.”

A unique selling point for Falck is the ability to train Brazilian airport firefighters and maintain their certificates through a yearly refresher course. New regulations imposed by the National Civil Aviation Agency, ANAC, have raised the bar in terms of required competency and frequency of training, which implies a substantial demand for airport firefighter training with more than 5 million passengers per year.

Falck is currently the only approved provider of training of airport firefighters in Brazil and also the only supplier having invested in a mobile training solution allowing the training to take place at the customer’s site.

Belo Horizonte International Airport is located in the state of Minas Gerais and had 12 million passengers in 2015. In 2014, it was privatised and the 30-year concession for operation, maintenance and expansion was given to a consortium comprising Zurich Airports, Brazilian CCR and Infraero.

Falck has been contracted to provide approx. 90 firefighters for ARFFS. The airport is currently CAT8 and is foreseen to upgrade to CAT9 in the near future.

So far, 5 international airports in Brazil have been privatised, and during the second half of 2016, privatisation of additional 4 international airports and 18 regional airports is expected to take place.
