What started as an impossible dream — an action thriller about a food delivery driver chased through the frozen wilderness —has already drawn global attention as a bold and unlikely indie success story from Finland.

Delivery Run is the second feature film by Finnish filmmaker Joey Palmroos, whose distinctive visual style and storytelling has already drawn international attention. Critics have praised the new film as “a masterclass in tension” and “a popcorn flick built for thrills”.

Filmed in the biting –20°C cold of Lapland, Delivery Run was created completely independently — without public funding, studio backing, or marketing budget. It began as a simple idea: a relentless chase across ice and snow, driven by sheer perseverance and a vision for international reach.

That vision paid off.
In spring 2024, the film captured two top awards at the prestigious Frontières Platform in Cannes, opening doors for global distribution. Soon after, Delivery Run was selected for the Sitges Film Festival, one of the world’s leading showcases for genre cinema.

Now, one year later, Delivery Run has done what few indie films from Finland ever have: secured theatrical release in North America. From Las Vegas to Paris, from London to Los Angeles, the film’s journey has mirrored its own story — a tale of grit, survival, and audacious belief.

At the heart of the story is Alexander Arnold, known for his breakout roles in Skins and Yesterday, who plays a food delivery driver — a “likeable loser” struggling to survive a deadly night shift. His performance has been hailed by critics as one of his most compelling to date, bringing raw emotion and dark humor to the high-stakes chase.

Opposite him, Finnish actor Jussi Lampi delivers a chilling performance as the snowplow driver — a menacing figure that embodies the story’s primal, icy tension and grounds the film firmly in its Northern roots.

Though Delivery Run was filmed entirely in Lapland, Finland, the story is set in Minnesota — a deliberate creative choice to make the film feel universal. The town of Ylläs doubled as a Midwestern American setting, and the local community rallied behind the production. Even acclaimed local chef Sirly Ylläsjärvi and her restaurant Elsa became part of the story, providing both catering and on-screen locations during the shoot.

“We had zero guarantees, zero budget, and every reason to quit — but we didn’t,” says Joey Palmroos of Arctic Renegades, the production company he runs together with Dora Palmroos. “This film was made on sheer perseverance. It’s a survival story both on screen and behind the scenes.”
